LOCAL LIVE LAUGHTER IN HALF MOON BAY by Hester Schell – March 10, 2013 (Half Moon Bay, California)
“We’re baack!” After a four-year hiatus, HYSTERCIAL HOUSEWIVES, WOMEN'S STANDY-UP returns to Half Moon Bay. The historical San Benito House on Main Street is the new home for this band of local funny women. Laughter for the soul, and food for the hungry: As with past performances, tickets are $15 along with a non-perishable food item to benefit Coastside Hope’s food bank. “We’ve always collected food donations at our comedy shows so audiences can pay it forward. It is so important," says Schell.
The current class, going since January, has their recital on April 13, at 7pm. This latest class includes Gwyn Firth Murray (Menlo Park), Emily Marie Grant (Palo Alto) and the new mistress of ceremonies for Pescadero Art and Fun Fair, Iris Travis (Miramar Beach). Local pet whisperer, Jennifer Celestre (Moss Beach) a founding member, returns. The next class is scheduled to start in early May for a July 4th comedy night. Contact Hester Schell to register. Visit HesterSchellCreative.com Email reservations for the recital to info@bayareacasting.com. Seating at the San Benito House is limited and it is recommended early arrival. The comics have tickets, so if you know any of these gals, stop them on the street and get your ticket. This show will sell out.
MORE:
“Each week we share fresh, original material and use peer evaluation for safe and productive feedback, while working up great performance skills from relatively inexperienced comics,” says creator, teacher and producer, Hester Schell (Half Moon Bay). The original Hysterical Housewives, which started back in 2005, performed numerous sold out shows on the Coastside, from Enso Gallery to Old Princeton Landing. “We decided to jump start the group with a fresh class,” says Schell. “I love it that we’ll be on Main Street. San Benito House is a perfect location for the show. It’s a great bar.”
Founding member and returning performer, Jennifer Celestre says, “I still get stopped on the street – a lot, folks asking when there will be another show, so we can’t wait to get this going again!” Hysterical Housewives explores everything from divorce to dating, politics to diet fads. Contemporary and biographical material is explored throughout the weekly class, which culminates in a class recital. “Coastsiders want more local live comedy, and they want our brand of humor,” continues Celestre.

MORE:
HYSTERICAL HOUSEWIVES WOMEN'S STAND UP WHO'S WHO
Gwyn Firth Murray (Menlo Park) strives to achieve middle-age hormonal balance by picking slugs off of her organic kale plants and making lentil soup. She lives on her suburban "farm" with a plethora of cats, dogs, geese, ducks, chickens, rabbits, a box turtle, a bearded dragon and two allegedly-human teenagers.
Emily Marie Grant enjoys her time as a part time taxi driver for her spawn. She’s an IT executive, household engineer, and has a knack for picking out the most expensive thing off the rack without trying. When she's not busting a rib with laughter, she can be found hanging out with said spawn, doing artsy-fartsy crafts, and having her toenails painted blue.
Iris Travis (Half Moon Bay) Practicing hedonist, monger of fine wears, masterful chef of boiling water, drinker of gin, lover of cake, writer of music, and friend to all poodles.
Jennifer Celestre (Moss Beach) recently lost over 100 pounds after a near death experience while on vacation in coma-land, the new theme park hosted by Stanford hospital. Her new lease on life is all thrills and laughter, but she doesn't recommended the coma diet.
Hester Schell (Half Moon Bay) is a recovering academic who only recently fully understood just how much she doesn't know about anything at all. She is looking forward to hitting the re-set button and moving on to the next take in the next set up.
