WRITNG COMPETITION & FESTIVAL OF READINGS TO COMMEMORATE DEVIL’S SLIDE TUNNEL OPENING IN 2011 –
(Half Moon Bay, CA 11/2/2010)

TUNNEL VISION WRITERS PROJECT ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS

Light at the End of the Tunnel Productions is accepting creative writing submissions to celebrate and commemorate the opening of the Devil’s Slide Tunnel in the autumn of 2011. From public hearings to balloting, and finally appropriating the funds to get it built, the 360 Million dollar tunnel has been decades in the making. Organizers want to get the word out now, so writers have time to develop new works to meet the April, 2011 deadline. Residents in five Bay Area counties - San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Alameda - are eligible to enter in either of two divisions - adult (over age 18), or teen (aged 14-18).  Winners and runner ups will be read aloud in a public Festival of Readings November 11 to 13, 2011. Full details, instructions and entry forms are online at http://tunnelvisionwriters.blogspot.com/

Additional tunnel information and construction updates: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/dslide/

THEME: Submissions of unpublished, original works in any genre (comedy, drama, history, western, musical, political thriller, etc.) must thematically address an aspect of tunnels, tunnel vision in general, or the Devil’s Slide Tunnel Project specifically. Conceptual metaphors, events or locations having to do with tunnels, enlightenment, light at the end of the tunnel, tunnel vision, light, darkness, birth, re-birth, death, emergence, entrance or however “tunnel vision,” is interpreted by a writer, are encouraged, and may include, for example, a history of the public campaign to get the tunnel built, visions of future effects of the tunnel on the local economy, and tunnel metaphors.  Works may not have been completed prior to October 2010 and may not be previously published.
