Roundabouts were one of many features discussed in the report from the Traffic and Trails meetings last June and presented to the Midcoast in a public meeting last month. On Saturday, March 13, there will be an information session on roundabouts open to interested members of the community. The meeting is sponsored by Midcoast Park Lands and will be at the Granada Sanitary District office in El Granada, at 504 Avenue Alhambra, 3rd Floor. The meeting time is 10:30am. There will also be an opportunity to walk a nearby part of Highway 1 to better understand roundabout considerations.
The speaker will be Ken Sides, a professional traffic engineer who has been instrumental in eighteen built roundabouts. He currently has five under construction and several more in design. He serves on both the Institute of Transportation Engineering Roundabout Task Force and the Transportation Research Board Roundabout Task Force. This is an opportunity to learn more about roundabout design for modern roadways.
