Neil’s guest is Matt Grocott, the San Carlos councilman who ran this year for a seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. Matt didn’t make it to the run-off but he did manage to obtain almost every newspaper endorsement in the County. (The Half Moon Bay Review was one of two newspapers which did not endorse Grocott). Matt talks about the race, his views on planning and his vision for the coast. The video runs about twenty minutes.
Follow the link for Neil’s interview with Measure E co-chair Nadia Bledsoe.
...there's more after the jump.School Superintendent Rob Gaskill sat down with Neil Merrilees to talk about Measure E, the proposed Parcel tax to fund the local school district, and to inaugurate Neil’s new show, Going Coastal with Neil Merrilees.
In this half hour video Gaskill explains the thinking behind the parcel tax ballot measure and makes his case why residents—both those with kids and without—should vote for it.
If you’re still undecided about how to vote on Measure E or even whether to vote at all, I encourage you to view these videos that were largely written, produced and directed by coastside students. Along with teachers, councilors, librarians & support staff; coastside students will be the most severely impacted by the proposed cuts if Measure E does not succeed.
Help protect coastside schools & students and vote Yes on Measure E on June 8th. These videos are now live on YouTube…please share freely.

For the past few years Montara Fog has offered local candidates a free five minute video as a way for them to reach voters without a “media filter.” These videos have been published not only on Montara Fog but also on the Half Moon Bay Review web site and on Coastsider.com, offering candidates complete coverage on the coast and maximizing voters’ chance to learn about the candidates.
This year we are expanding our candidate videos to include the race for the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. Rich Gordon, who currently represents the Coastside, is “termed out” and his seat is up for grabs. Five candidates are running for that seat. Four of them participated in this project.
Each candidate chose their own location for the video shoot and followed a set of rules to ensure that all candidates were treated fairly. Weather was a factor in recent days—during one shoot I barely had enough time to throw my jacket over the video camera before a wall of rain drenched us. Thanks to the candidates for their enthusiasm and flexibility in overcoming these obstacles.
Click on each photo to play the video.
Candidate Jack Hickey did not participate in this project.
