Please join us for the launch of a most unusual book: a faux museum catalogue by a fake curator about a non-existent art exhibit. If you like to laugh you’ll love this book!

Saturday, February 25, 2012   1:00 to 3:00 PM

Harbor Books
Princeton Harbor
270 Capistrano Road
El Granada, CA 94018
(650) 726-4241

The author of Klassic Koalas: The Koala Museum of Modern Art Catalogue, Mr. Francois D’Rigour, Chief Curator and Executive Chef of the Koala Museum of Art (COMA) will be at the opening in person. He is related to Montara resident, Nancy Margulies, although she disavows all knowledge of him.

Nancy Margulies created a book that is not what it appears to be.  This impressive museum catalogue represents and exhibit that never happened, in a non-existent museum, featuring actual famous works of art (all of whom Margulies modified). The book is a wonderful spoof on the real thing and the opening, planned for this spring on the coast, will be the real deal. Margulies, who presents herself as the curator of the show,  Francois D’Rigour, pictured here will appear in person and perform a brief art history lecture that will provide many more laughs than facts.

The next Coastside Film Society screening focuses on the life and music of  the great French romantic composer Hector Berlioz.  In this fascinating behind-the-scenes documentary, conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony take viewers on a guided tour of the life and music of this great, but troubled composer.

The Coastside Film Society to screen a documentary about Berlioz and the Symphonie Fantastique

Terry Teachout of The Wall Street Journal raves, “[The Keeping Score documentaries] are, hands down, the best classical-music programs of their kind since Leonard Bernsteins Young Peoples Concerts. [Michael Tilson Thomas] is the finest American conductor of his generation, and the only one who learned the lessons of Leonard Bernstein, using them to turn the San Francisco Symphony into the most adventurous, audience-friendly orchestra in America.”

Friday, Feb 10, 7:30 p.m.
Community United Methodist Sanctuary
777 Miramontes St., Half Moon Bay (corner of Johnston Street)
This event is free, however donations will be gladly accepted.

The National Weather Service has put northern California, including the Coastside, on a high wind watch from 11pm Monday to 9am Tuesday.

Sustained winds 20 to 35 mph with frequent gusts from 50 to 60 mph…Strongest along the san mateo coast.

* impacts: Strong winds along highway 1 including the golden gate will cause hazardous driving. Strong winds will be especially gusty around tall buildings in the city and any loose objects could topple over. Power outages…Downed trees and limbs will be possible. Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph… Or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Perhaps this recent dog-walking incident on The Mountain could serve to settle this festering issue for good.

I am appalled at the instantaneous thrust of the “off-leashers” to grab this issue as their own.

San Mateo County’s leash law says “all dogs are to be on leash and under control whenever they are off the owner’s property.  The leash must be no more than 6 feet in length.”

I LOVE dogs! Dogs are doing nothing wrong. It is the haughty, above- the-law-walkers who have virtually closed the mountain to me. Over the years the “dogs must be on leash” signs have been defaced or removed by walkers.

There are off-leash parks. Dogs deserve them. Use them. Leash-up when on Montara.

Over the last thirteen years vocalist Kenny Washington and saxophonist Michael O’Neill have developed a rare simpatico that characterizes their musical collaboration.  Each performance features a balanced mix of standards and Michael’s compositions, complemented by Kenny’s soulful interpretations, seemingly limitless range, and rapid-fire scatting. There are two major recordings featuring Michael and Kenny which are: The Long and the Short of It by the Michael O’Neill Quintet featuring Kenny Washington, and Still Dancin. They will be presenting a brand new set of arrangements and original vocal tunes - specifically crafted as settings for Kenny’s amazing voice - written by Michael that they have been honing for an upcoming recording. Recent performances of this material at Yoshi’s/Oakland, the Ritz-Carlton/Half Moon Bay and the Second Saturday Salon (house concert) have been received with rave responses.
