Opinion:  Foothill Bypass, Part II: A legal (and literal) quagmire

May 10, 2006

Mike McCall,

The gap in your logic is that I was referring to Mr. Ferreira’s current political standpoint.  My opinion is clearly stated - Mike is speaking for political reasons, and while I appreciate the attention he has paid to the issue, I don’t appreciate or agree with the viewpoint.

I also thought Mr. Lansing’s clever reference to state developers, while seemingly innocuous, provides nothing towards a solution.  Is Yee trying to carve a piece out for the Coastside?  Maybe Mr. Lynch knows?

Its Mr. Ginna, thanks, and it is completely on topic if you are not going to offer a solution.  Note that I waited breathlessly until Part III came out to see if it contained any of the sort.  Sadly, just a highly personalized “critique” that doesn’t really further the discussion.

You are fooling noone if you think you can disguise your version of a “political lashout” as anything but.  Dismissing ordinary citizens is part of your game, even as you have become one.

Incendiary!  I like it.

Still no suggestions or solutions provided by Mr. Ferreira, and he is clearly not in a mood to engage in discussions to work towards them.  No suprise.  Mike infers nothing - he make artfully crafted yet blatant politically-charged responses.  Are they aren’t incendiary?  Just “baloney.”

The group response from Ferreira, Lansing, Freer, Lynch et al has been to try to steer the debate away from a solution and back towards polarization and more labels.  I give them credit for being partially effective.  Grady and Gorn are oddly silent on this issue.  Hopefully they have some solutions.

Remeber - Mike doesn’t “need anyone’s help to circulate.”

Tim,

In all honesty, for Mr. Ferreira to suggest solutions at this point in his political career would be foolish.  Why not keep them all for the campaign trail next Summer when he tries to return to the City Council for Gorn’s seat (a seat we all know will be impossible for Gorn to hold on to)?  Suggesting solutions now while lacking direct control of the situation would not be practical.  Better to let the citizens deal with the inconveniences for now and then try to look like a hero when he tries to reclaim his throne.  Just observations.  Hope I am wrong.

For now, he’ll make lots of noise about how you cannot do this and cannot do that and have his buddy Mr. Lynch chime in about “playing politics” (which would be comical if it weren’t so tragic).

P.S.  Mr. Lynch - any update from Assemblyman Yee’s office on his efforts to assist the Coastside during this crisis?  As many readers here know, you were “volunteering” for him.

What many readers probably don’t know that Mr. Yee’s 2004 campaign used leftover funds to donate to the mostly failed Ferreira/Grady/Skinner/LCP campaigns (oddly, Yee’s filing does not disclose the LCP donation that LCP disclosed).  Public information, nothing new.

Coastsider endorses Measure S

June 06, 2006

“We have chosen to give our kids the best we can and for us that is providing them with a high quality education which is just not available here on the coast.”

“Do not fault me for wanting what is best for my children.”

You seem oddly defensive about your choice to send your children to private school.  I am at a loss, since I didn’t mention that fact in my response.  If I did, I would be hypocritical due to the fact that I AM TOO!  I am keeping them local, however.

Nevertheless, support for public schools is simply not an option for responsible members of the community.  Withholding support because buses weren’t included or because you aren’t happy with the ‘corrupt politicians’ or apparent ‘lack of accountability’ are all very short-sighted views, in my opinion.  Funding is obviously still a problem, despite the jumble of statistics and graphs presented.

Big picture - $0.50/day is all they are asking for.  Demanding accountability is absolutely reasonable and necessary.  That is for another day.

Thanks to Barry for the support and forum.  Ken King - thank you for your time and support.  Kevin Lansing and John Lynch - thank you for your endorsements.  I think/hope you folks may have tipped the balance this time to get this passed.

Ms. Martin,

“Ugh! I am so tired of hearing about Measure S and seeing the signs. Be done with it.”

So, do you honestly think apathy is a cure?

Coastside Community First revives Foothill Blvd project

May 05, 2006

Mike,

Don’s post, which I agree with wholeheartedly, was not available when I posted due to the time lag from when he posted it until Barry released it.  Nothing confusing about his message.

I didn’t say Mr. Lansing’s questions were confusing.  I said the others were confused.  How about this little gem:

“Yet look at the map and you can see that all they want to do is develop this beautiful area for personal profit.” Where is that from?  What basis exists for that statement?  Pure rhetoric.  “...using it as a wedge to get more development is a bad idea.” huh?

From one Brian to another,

Not surprising that you saw right through more of the same old rhetoric.

Folks like Mr. Lansing are simply trying to confuse people and steer the debate towards himself.  Seems like some of the others are simply confused - perhaps their reading comprehension is failing.

Find out for yourself - call one of the CCF folks.  They’ll be willing to talk...and listen and act.  Others just talk and impede.

Mr. Johnson,

After reviewing this post and several from other posts on the parcel tax and school board issues, I am having a hard time understanding exactly what you would like to have happen.

Would you be able to, in 100 words or less, tell people what you would like to see happen?  Not specifics regarding middle school locations or mislabeling/misinterpretation of statistics, just a high net on how you would do something better/or have it done better by different people.

Your website is as disjointed as many of your messages.  Is there any concise principle that you are following or are you merely playing some kind of self-appointed taxpayer advocate / school board critic role?  Do you have actual supporters or like-minded associates? Do you have ideas other than removing the current board?  Again, just looking for something positive other than the continual finger pointing.  Can’t argue with properly educating all of the students or providing busing, but where are your solutions?

I note that your three picks for office in November (Grady, Ferreira and Marsh) yielded exactly one winner.  I’m just having trouble figuring out if there is any sense to be made of your ongoing “campaign.”

Traffic is flowing well Monday morning

April 19, 2006

Is there any detailed information available on any efforts by the Midcoast Community Council to work with CUSD to address the bussing issue?  No need to link to it, just let me know if it is buried in agendas or letters to the County and I’ll look again.  Hopefully there have been efforts of some sort.

“Traffic congestion does not appear to be something the current CUSD board is concerned about.”

This is nothing more than inflammatory rhetoric - I guess I am not surprised to see it here.  Perhaps a little surprised that an elected official would feel the need to resort to it.

Accident on Hwy 92 muddies impact of HMB’s emergency traffic measures

“high capacity freeways, big box stores, multiplex theatres, etc.”

sorry, but my rhetoric meter went off the charts.  Really, come on now.  I was hoping we could have a great big Target and Lowes soon.  Would save me lots of money on gas.  Not going to happen?  shoot.

Mr. Clabaugh,

Welcome to the Coast!  You should probably call/email the folks on the Mid-Coast Community Council that “represent” you.

Believe it or not, there are many people who live Coastside who actually don’t have a problem with the roads and infrastructure being the way they are (not specifically any of the MCC officials, mind you...)

You will find plenty of info here on the MidCoast LCP - read up.  Some of the comments will really open your eyes wide.

HMB Fire Chief announces his intention to leave department

March 23, 2006

You guys are rich.

Seriously - are any of your “Am I the only one who suspects...” and “another reasonable interpretation...” and “Based on some personal knowledge...” statements supported by facts that you can actually back up those statements with and add to your comments so they stand on their own?

Granted, the timing is very odd, but in the absence of actually stating facts, aren’t you simply filling out the bottom of the article with a bunch of meandering speculation and innuendo which then cleverly distorts the situation (at least to a reader of the article)?

are you trying to further mar a badly painted picture?

HMB City Council interviews are likely to be a charade, says McClung

March 14, 2006

“Bonnie called them a charade.” Technically, very much incorrect.

She said “I don’t want these interviews to become a charade.”

She isn’t saying they ARE going to or even that they are LIKELY TO.

The SM Times usage of “may” somehow equals “likely to” in Coastsider-speak??

Guess your conclusion is that it is fair.  I still disagree.  It is extremely provocative and unecessary.

HMB City Council interviews are likely to be a charade, says McClung

March 14, 2006

Given that Gorn “agreed with McClung” and she begins with the fact that she does not “want the interviews to become a charade,” is that headline really fair/warranted?  I do not think so.

Video: HMB City Council’s “Tuesday Night Meltdown”

March 08, 2006

Mr. Massara,

I have looked back at your post a few times and have to admit that I remain baffled at the utter lack of respect you show here for the voters/citizens of HMB.  You want to criticize a politician - go ahead, but be direct and, as Barry repeated, have a little class.  But to attack the majority of the voters like that?  uncalled for.

Is this what the Sierra Club is really about?  Guess I now have additional confirmation of why I have never supported what is essentially an “inside the Beltway” policy influencer.

You might are effective at local action but I am guessing you are not going to be leading their public relations campaign anytime soon.  Perhaps they were your personal comments and not reflective of the organization as a whole.  If that is the case, then you should probably remove the link to your website.

“Keep going for it, and we’ll look forward to cleaning up your mess at the Coastal Commission all over again..... “

That’s such positive message to leave us with.  Thanks for coming.

In any event, I am forwarding a copy of your comments to the LP chapter coordinators/chairs/etc. so they are aware of your disdain for HMB.  Maybe they don’t care.

P.S. there was no “failure to re-elect” anyone.  Ferreira failed to get elected.

Must-See MCTV: City Council détente breaks down

March 09, 2006

Mr. Woren,

just so I can understand your logic - was the “divisiveness” ok when the current minority was in charge?  Regime?  We’re not talking about Bush/Cheney here - the drama is getting really tiring.

The current minority failed in a desparate attempt to show HMB voters (one of which, you are not, I might add) that they were moving the city forward.  They weren’t.  GET OVER IT.

You have every right to comment about HMB affairs, but please stop acting like the end of the world is near.  We’ll get along just fine, thanks.

Must-See MCTV: City Council détente breaks down

from dictionary.thesaurus.com

mas·sa·cre P Pronunciation Key (ms-kr)
n.
The act or an instance of killing a large number of humans indiscriminately and cruelly.
The slaughter of a large number of animals.
Informal. A severe defeat, as in a sports event.

Usage

“Do you remember when Lynch and his LCP-cabal spent $23,178 to put up three candidates for City Council and only one of them was voted in?  Wow, that was a massacre.”

“I am participating, I’m participating by abstaining,” said Grady, after Fraser requested that he submit another nomination. “That’s well within my right as a councilperson.”

After this, former mayor and current (marginalized) councilman Grady was seen running home down Kelly with his ball.

Motorcycle accident leaves six injured, closes Highway 1 for two hours

I was in the backyard with the kids when they came by the light at Ocean Colony.  Lots of revving and whining engines and obvious speeding.  Had to be this group.

Brilliant way to ruin a perfect day on the Coast.

I think the most telling sign is the “8 votes is no mandate.” Grady and Gorn and many of their supporters are certainly into “hardball politics,” so I don’t see how that sign is anything but overly dramatic.

Go to smartvoter.org, add up the votes for Patridge, McClung and Muteff - 5,739

Add up the votes for Grady, Ferriera & Skinner - 5,295

Ignore the recount amounts for now, as they are not material to the discussion.

One thing is crystal clear - 444 votes is a very clear mandate for change.  284 of those separated Patridge and Grady.  The two incumbents come in 2nd and 4th (albeit narrowly) and the blue signs were clearly the most prevalent.  1 for 3 works in baseball, not politics.

I guess I can be the first here to thank Ms. Freer and Messrs Lansing, Kellenberger, Falcone and McCarthy for your service to Half Moon Bay.  Others who are just as competent will be taking your place.
