CPR invites you to “Rock with Local Bands”

July 20, 2006

Kevin,

Although you posed the question to Mary, please allow me to comment.

“The case involves the un-permitted use of other people’s property...” Does it?

The group obtained “Affidavit of Certified Property Owner” forms from each landowner.  As the affidavit form is not contained in the pdf, does it not cover the use (which is recreational, and apparently not disputed by the city BUT by CCC) or encroachment?  What does it cover?

The CCC letter appears to be very poorly formed and lacking in essential facts.  Not surprising.  The club’s claims of agency overreaching seem well grounded.

HMB staff recommendation for Alternative #2 seems reasonable.  Come to a negotiated solution.  Although this will essentially lead to some kind of CCC appeal, this is the kind of legal fees I want to see the City incur.  Kind of like “plan your work, work your plan.” Hopefully the City sticks to its guns and does not buckle to CCC “input.” I think I am being very generous in using the term “input.”

Did you want to debate whether or not the CCC is running amok with only a hint of checks and balances or talk about the weather?

CCC does not appear to be having a good summer on the Coastside.  If they had a public face, it would already be blushing after the Big Wave “alarm bells” went off and they alerterd SMC to big “problems” with the farming up there that turned out to not exist.

Letter:  Why hasn’t anything been done about the evening commute?

July 12, 2006

Leonard,

Makes sense.  The “peak hour” evening part of the “plan” that Carol provided the link to “allows” that left turn.

For some reason, that part of the “plan” seems to have a barricade to prohibit right turns from WB 92 to NB Main (along with cross traffic).  That does not make sense.

Anyone happen to call the City yet to find out the status?

Letter:  Why hasn’t anything been done about the evening commute?

July 11, 2006

“Too many of you were content to approve a parcel tax without this essential bus service being part of it.”

No, the problem was too many of YOU were content to deny the parcel tax without the “essential” bus service being part of it.  Holding “feet to the fire” is WAY different than providing some very necessary funding for kids.  The chance to get at the school board is in November, if that is your cause.  I can see folks being anti-tax (and really now, who is not?), but grudges solve nothing.  You seem to have a few.

Traffic was pretty darn manageable before the Slide went out.  Again.

“If you want to see who is responsible for this traffic mess, look in the mirror.”

Do you know Carl May?  He was supposed to be my driver throughout this traffic mess and he made me look in the mirror too.  Once I did that, I decided I probably could continue to brave the nasty 92 flower farm/circling hawk/placid reservoir annoyance I call a commute on my own.

Sirius 17.  Wake up, Jam On.  Makes it a whole lot easier.

Opinion: CUSD should address school traffic

July 08, 2006

Excellent.

Mix incentive-based planning and personal responsibility, add some minimal administrative legwork and a little effort should go a long way.

I am sure some technology can be thrown in for #5 to help coordinate.

Opinion: “Save the Strip” is now mission possible

July 06, 2006

Leni,

Thanks.

Actually, just posting the names/directors/officers, etc. here would be enough.  Is there a reason to not do that?  You seem to be looking to raise a substantial amount of money for “conservation” and transparency would be kind of important, no?

Opinion: “Save the Strip” is now mission possible

July 05, 2006

Ms. Schultz,

You appropriately identify that you are the “Chair” of the BSC.

Who else is on the “Committee?”

Is there a reason that the savethestrip.org website does not list other directors, officers or committee members?

Same with http://www.mpl.sanmateo.org/ Why no information on who/where donations are going to?

Thanks for more information.

Who should replace David Gorn?

July 06, 2006

Ken,

Actually, no, since Barry did not give me examples, just a definition.

I think labeling people is going down the wrong path (and I did not start this...), however, more folks like Marina and Bonnie is a good start.  Throwing people’s hats into the ring - not going to happen (at least I am not).  not fair to them.

Attack George all you want.  He can take it.  He would do more for the community than most.  Same with Naomi.  If the jury is out on this council, it is still out on Grady.  He needs to prove he wants to reach out too.

I do not want someone with a “constituency” per se.  Just someone who wants to work for the community.  Hard to find and hard to get them elected.

Who should replace David Gorn?

July 06, 2006

To answer your question, I would need to know who or what exactly are “environmentalists” and what they are looking for.  Any examples?

Who should replace David Gorn?

Did Mr. Ferreira say he would not run again or was that just a dream?  Something like a “snowball’s chance?” I cannot find the story on the Review’s website but I swear I read it.

If that is true, why should he be appointed, when it is clear that he is not wanted at the table by the other council members?  He was rejected for planning commission and he would be rejected for this.  Why go any further down this road?

I like this gem from Mr. Grady:

“A lot of people who are interested in serving don’t want to go through the process of an election.”

Some folks are in politics just to be politicians.  Exhibit A - the “Coffee with Mike” video.  Notice how Mr. Ferreira says he became “interested in the politics.” He does not say that he wanted to help the community.  Not ONCE.  Did he help the community?  In some ways, yes.  In many ways, no.

The majority of voters would surely want someone who is clearly a “moderate.” Using “moderate” in the same sentence as “Mike Ferreira” is laughable.  Moderates would compromise.

This is also pretty funny:
“...only one moral choice for the appointment.”
Mr. Woren, are you serious?  Moral choice?

Lansing and McCarthy would have far better chances at appointments, so dropping the “Mike for council (again)” thing makes sense at this point.

County stops, and then allows, filling and grading at Big Wave

June 26, 2006

“guess no one gives a damn about preserving that beautiful, natural area. Just some observations here, no politics.”

hmmm...isn’t it privately-owned land?  Is that the area you were trespassing on?  Because you loved hiking on it means it should be preserved for you?

“Why is the County letting Big Wave get away with this?”

the letter seems to indicate (at least in my deranged mind) they did nothing wrong.  What exactly are they trying to “get away with” other than an allowable use on private property?

“...and this farming may continue as a legal non-conforming use.”

Perhaps Fourth of July will come just in time and folks will remember little things like liberty and freedom.

City will add agriculture to Boys and Girls Club lease

June 22, 2006

Steve,

Thanks for a positive message.  If David made mistakes here, I have no doubt that he will take personal responsibility for his actions.

Seems like Ms. Ruddock is going to take the role of executioner after having judged (let’s just skip jury).  These actions taken with no evidence whatsoever.

As a former city official, she should know how dangerous it is to make potentially libelous comments such as these.

Time will tell if Mr. Benjamin is merely posturing in saying that he wants the Boys & Girls Club to be built, under any circumstances.  I’m not buying it.

Boys and Girls Club bulldozes probable wetlands on city’s land without a permit

June 19, 2006

my point was not about the permit process.  I could be splitting hairs.

The Google map is pretty cool.  Try it from 400 Pilarcitos.  I am sure the view from there is even better.

Boys and Girls Club bulldozes probable wetlands on city’s land without a permit

June 19, 2006

“probable wetlands”

the land “is likely to have included wetlands,...”

“ is very likely to have contained wetlands,..” “which would have been discovered in the permit process.”

Probably, likely, or very likely? Which is it?  Not looking for a legal opinion, just balance.  Other than Mr. Nagengast’s verbal comments, what is the source of any evidence that there may be or may have been wetlands on the site?  Hopefully, something more concrete than hearsay exists.

Isn’t “might” more appropriate than “would”?

“land is now flat and dry.” What was it before?

Letter: Sign and distribute a petition to Trader Joe’s

June 16, 2006

“Very few people responded.”

hmmm...wonder why

“Trader Joe’s was going to somehow solve the problem.”

If we can have a voice in the possible replacement of a nasty supermarket with a nicer one, why not?  The only problem that needs to be solved is potentially keeping a merchant that people do not want from moving in.  This is practical discussion on bringing in a store, which by all accounts:

1) treats its workers well
2) offers just about everything at a reasonable price
3) gives back to the community

yes, 1 and 3 apply to Cuhna’s.  #2, not so much.  Will I stop going to Cuhna’s?  Absolutely not, especially if they keep pushing the marinated flat-iron steaks at $7.99/lb (like butter...) Do I want to buy olive oil there?  Not particularly.

I shop at CostCo, Target, Trader Joe’s, Safeway and Cuhna’s.  Do I want either of the first two on the Coastside?  No.

You want to start another discussion on your big picture views of the Main St. situation, send Barry a letter to the editor and I am sure he will happily post it.  Perhaps some people will be interested in your thoughts.  I think disparaging the Trader Joe’s idea is short-sighted.

Sav-on is an in-store pharmacy, not a stand alone.  With Rite-Aid and Longs in the community, I doubt it could become another drugstore.  Seems too big for a Walgreens, but I would not be surprised.  Might be too big for a Trader Joes, but we can give it a shot.  I’d happily take a movie theather (which would not be without its own problems).

Thank you for getting this going.

Put me down to gather at least 50.  I will shoot for 100.  Perhaps just for reference - is there a particular range of zip codes (say, from Montara - Pescadero) that they are going to hone in on?

CCF asks Coastal Commission 25 questions

August 24, 2006

The following comment was posted by Barry Parr on Jun 23, 06 | 8:06 am

Half Moon Bay grew at 2.6% in 2004, mainly due to exceptions made by the city.  We don’t know what it was in 2005.

It is now August 2006.  Do we know at this point what the growth statistics are for HMB in 2005?

CCF asks Coastal Commission 25 questions

June 14, 2006

“Chris Kerns is an extremely busy man, handling coastal development projects over several NorCal counties.  It is all he can do to try to respond to actual genuine development proposals (like Big Wave, Wavecrest, Pacific Ridge, Pacifica Quarry etc.) and educate people regarding the legal necessity of protecting coastal resources.  Anwsering 25-question letter demands seems a bit excessive.”

Are you serious? Why did Mr. Kerns take the time to respond to a mis-informed news article regarding community-based discussions in the first place?

Since we citizens pay his salary, explain to me why he should not answer questions from the community in a timely manner?  I don’t care if it is 50 pages.  Sorry, but it is his job and I have no idea why you think you are a gatekeeper to his daily calendar.

Hopefully you are not too busy do to your own research.  here is the CCF website:

David Gorn resigns from HMB City Council

June 15, 2006

I stand corrected.  POST also is not a bank, and should not be lending funds to a city in that manner.

Do you still think $500K to buy open space is a good use of the City’s general funds?

Any plan in place to find that $3MM?

David Gorn resigns from HMB City Council

June 14, 2006

If you look at other recent posts, you will note that I am in favor of open space.  The more the merrier.

Problem is, $3.5MM of general funds spent on open space?  POST should be buying the land, not the city.
