Come discuss safe crossing for Hwy 1 in Moss Beach and Montara at MCC, Weds, Jan 27

The county plans to submit a grant application to address safety, and mobility issues affecting Highway 1 through the Montara and Moss Beach communities.
The county’s Department of Parks obtained Caltrans funding to produce the recently released “Highway 1 Safety and Mobility Improvement Study”. This study contains a review of issues and a number of potential improvements to Highway 1 focused specifically in the El Granada and Miramar communities. The findings of the study, receipt of public comment and next steps will be the topic of a community meeting on February 11 (7pm at El Granada Elementary School).
The Midcoast Community Council (MCC) is discussing support for the grant application at its January 27th meeting. We know “safe crossings” is an issue of great concern to the residents of Moss Beach and Montara. The discussion threads last year after the unfortunate accident at the Virginia Ave. crossing are sufficient evidence of that concern. The MCC invites residents of the Moss Beach and Montara communities to attend the council meeting on the 27th and share their concerns and suggestions. The plan is to incorporate public input into a letter to the Board of Supervisors in support of the grant application and to draw attention to the specific concerns of the community for the northern section of Highway 1 on the unincorporated Midcoast (Airport to Devil’s Slide)
Dave Holland, Director of Parks and Recreation, will attend the February 10th MCC meeting to provide a preview of the report, answer questions, and address concerns relating to a study of the northern section of Highway 1. The MCC will present him with a copy of the support letter at that time and discuss additional steps we might be able to take to help get this grant application underway. Public attendance and support at the February 10th meeting would be incredibly valuable.

I’m glad to see the MCC take up this issue. This is not only about safe crossings, but about the integrity of the communities of Montara and Moss Beach. The solutions that are chosen will have a big impact on the livability of the Midcoast.
The Charter Review Committee is meeting the same night! This is most unfortunate for those of us who are concerned about at-large Board of Supervisor elections AND safe crossing in Moss Beach and Montara.
The Charter Review Committee meeting is this Wednesday, January 27th at 5:00pm in Redwood City.
Hopefully the MCC will have a planning meeting to actually do something to improve bicycle and pedestrian crossings with Caltrans on a night that does not conflict with the Charter Review Committee meeting.
Not sure why Dave Holland is the featured guest on Feb. 10th to discuss safe crossings. Mr. Holland, Director of Parks has not produced results with regard to safe crossing. Its time to get serious and meet with Caltrans engineers. Why is a representative from Caltrans not scheduled for the Jan. 27th or Feb 10th MCC meetings?
This is the same night that Coastside Fire Protection District is holding its regularly scheduled meeting. I am very interested in this topic.
Ginny, when the Fire District recently changed its regular meetings to conflict with the MCC regular meetings, I pointed that out but the fire board gave no consideration to my request to avoid such a conflict. The Midcoast Community Council regular meetings have been second and fourth Wednesdays for at least 15 years. It would be in the community interest for the fire board to resolve the conflict, while also avoiding conflicts with other local agency board meetings.
Leonard, it wasn’t an arbritory decision. We needed to hold our CFPD meeting when our attorney was available. Maybe, you could discuss this topic on the second Wednesday in February since it is a safety issue. Thanks.
