Five candidates, including two incumbents, have filed the paperwork to run for three open seats on the Cabrillo Unified School District board as of the initial filing deadline at 5pm Friday. Because incumbent Roy Salume has not filed to run, the deadline for filing will be extended five days to 5pm on Wednesday, August 16.

Incumbents Jolanda Schreurs of Montara and Dwight Wilson of Moss Beach are running.

New faces are Pamela Fisher, Ken Johnson, and Kirk Riemer, all of Half Moon Bay.

Readers of Coastsider.com might recall that Kirk Riemer and Jolanda Schreurs (together with CCWD directors Chris Mickelsen and James Larimer) were all found responsible for the phony anonymous attack ad against CUSD candidate Jonathan Lundell in 2005.

For background, see the following link to the August 2005 Coastsider story http://coastsider.com/comments/324010C/

which contains a comment by Barry Parr posted on Aug 27, 05 | 10:05 pm

“…The [attack] ad was purchased by CCWD Director Chris Mickelsen. He said last week that fellow water board director Jim Larimer and another man, whose name he couldn’t remember, were responsible for the ad.

“Cabrillo board President Jolanda Schreurs said the third man is Kirk Riemer. Riemer’s name appears on a list of Coastsiders who endorsed Lundell’s opponent, Charles Gardner. Riemer did not return a telephone call seeking comment.”

HMB Review editor Clay Lambert actually saw fit to run a formal apology for the phony anonymous attack ad. He said:

“Sometimes it seems as if our democratic process has been hijacked by sixth-graders.”

The quote attributed to me was actually me quoting the HMB Review.

When considering whether to vote for Jolanda, it would be appropriate to remember her participation in that sleaze during the previous CUSD election by rereading the Review’s followup article.

I can’t wait to see how the Review ignores or whitewashes that one this time in order to endorse Jolanda. This will be a bright-white-line test of the Review’s journalistic ethics.

Kevin J. Lansing and Leonard Woren,

Seems like HMB Review editor Clay Lambert still can’t get his calls returned.

“Ad writers say ends justify means of CUSD campaign” — Wednesday, November 10, 2004 http://hmbreview.com/articles/2004/11/10/news/local_news/story05.txt

“Cabrillo board President Jolanda Schreurs said the third man is Kirk Riemer. Riemer’s name appears on a list of Coastsiders who endorsed Lundell’s opponent, Charles Gardner. Riemer did not return a telephone call seeking comment.

Schreurs, who runs a graphics business, confirmed that she designed the ad to look like Lundell’s and helped arrange for Gardner to give up his space. Larimer said he contributed wording for the advertisement.”

Or maybe Clay Lambert is only indignant after an election!

Ken Johnson
