HMB woman selected for Peace Corps

Christina Corzine, 25, of Half Moon Bay, Calif., has been selected for a Peace Corps assignment in Peru. Corzine departs June 10, 2010, to begin a 27-month assignment as a youth development facilitator.
 
Corzine is a 2003 graduate of Half Moon Bay High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in human development from the University of California, Davis in 2007 and a Master’s degree in social work from Cal State East Bay in 2009.

"I believe that being a volunteer for the Peace Corps will be one of the greatest challenges of my life, one that I will love and grow so much from," Corzine says of her decision to serve. "I know I will come back to the US a better social worker because of my time as a volunteer in Peru."

Corzine will spend her first three months of service in training, living with a host family and studying Peru’s language and culture. After training, she will begin a two-year assignment, living in the style of the people in her new community.

Peace Corps is growing in advance of its 50th anniversary in 2011, and the agency is calling for additional applicants for overseas assignments in education, health, business, agriculture, the environment and youth development. Currently, 7,671 Peace Corps volunteers serve in 76 countries. More Peace Corps volunteers come from California than any other state.
Peace Corps is a 27-month commitment. Volunteers must be skilled U.S. citizens, at least 18-years old, and in good health. There is no upper age limit to serve. More information and online applications are available at www.peacecorps.gov.
