What do you want to tell Assemblyman Leland Yee?

I’m meeting with Assembly President Pro Tem Leland Yee Friday.

He’s meeting individually with all of the Peninsula newspapers to “go over the legislative session and discuss what is ahead in 2006”. His office has included Coastsider in that briefing process, which is pretty cool.

While the Coastside isn’t in his district, he is a candidate in 2006 for the State Senate district that includes the Coastside.

I want to give Coastsider readers a chance to participate in the process. What questions do you want to ask the assemblyman and what issues would you like to bring to his attention at our meeting?  Just as I keep Coastsider focused on local issues, I’d like to keep the conversation focused strictly on coastal issues, especially those that affect San Mateo County.

Barry: This is a great opportunity. Thanks for giving readers a chance to weigh in.

I would be interested to hear how Mr. Yee would take steps to ensure proper funding and staffing of the California Coastal Commission so that there are sufficient resources for project analysis, as well as enforcement actions.

I would also like to hear how Mr. Yee feels about some recent legislative proposals to help ensure proper ethical behavior of the appointed Coastal Commissioners with regard to their interaction with applicants and lobbyists. For details see the link below:

Tell Assemblyman Yee that he must stand firm against the neofascist onslaught. Or if he can’t handle the direct language, you could use the term right-wing extremists.

They are determined to destroy all human progress in the name of corporate profits. Example, the “Special Election.”

State Sen. Liz Figueroa said it was going to be grim in Sacramento regardless of the outcome of the election. The first thing Arnie does, after his “Special Election” ($300 million US dollar tab), is run off to China taking mostly business people who paid $10K to go with him.

traveling alongside Schwarzenegger - representing everything from big retail (Target) to beer (Miller Brewing), from agriculture (Sunkist) to education (University of California), from theme parks (Disney) to high tech (Qualcomm).

He is real big on talking about individuality and movie piracy in China. Arnie’s version of individuality is to destroy the social safety net. He mocks people who talk about their pensions. Blah. Like everyone can be rich like him as long as they want to court kidney failure via steroid use. Oh, you gotta take a risk or you can’t be an “individual” like Arnold.

Recall the Governator!

hello

it would be nice if Mr Yee would use his resouces to bring fairness and the rule of law to our fair MidCoast - he could, for instance, investigate the recent coastside races - perhaps he could light a fire under Mr Casey or the County Grand Jury - the results seem surreal

Please tell Assemblyman Leland Yee that he should support AB 651 Compassion in Dying Act, modeled after Oregon’s act that has been very well received. AB 651 has increased safeguards for the disabled and the menally ill. It was endorsed by the California Democratic Party. People of sound mind should be able to end their own suffering if they chose to.

Also, tell him that as a woman who supports incumbent Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, I am very disappointed that Yee endorsed his “old boy network” colleague Joe Nation who is trying to unseat Lynn. Lynn has a great environmental, health, education and human rights record. Joe Nation knew he was term limited when he first ran, and he’s taking valuable resources away that could be spent taking back the House. Catherine RN

I understand that you remain opposed to AB-651 - the Compassionate Choices Act because of fear that the vulnerable would be coerced into ending their lives. This law would be the most closely-watched legislation controlling medical practice with so many safeguards, and hoops (requirements) that only the most firm believer in personal choice would be able to complete all the steps required to obtain such a prescription. Other end of life options currently available - including terminal sedation - do not come close to providing such protections and can indeed be initiated by families without patient choice. Won’t you please reconsider your position?
