A little bird told me, (ok, ok - it was an employee) that It’s Italia is going to move from the Stone Pine Center to the location on Main Street that currently houses the now closed Half Moon Bay Inn. After a renovation to include a display kitchen area and new soundproofing, the restaurant will open sometime at the beginning of 2009. Don’t know about you guys, but I’ll enjoy the extra room (no more cramped quarters) - and the pizza is pretty good to boot. I will miss the Inn but I’m glad to know the lovely location will not sit empty.

Coastal Home Insurance weirdness

We are in the process of renewing our home insurance and had one company flatly refuse to give us a quote for cover as we lived within a 1000 ft of a large body of water (that would be the Pacific Ocean I’m guessing!) even though my wife informed the person on the phone that we are 165 ft above sea level. Has anyone else on the coast had this problem with auto cover or any other form of insurance?

My friend Michelle has happy chickens running around in her yard (she collects the eggs). She has eggs for sale and they are incredible when they are from home grown, chickens-in-the-yard. She will sell them to you for $4.00 a dozen and her number is 650.619.2176. I get eggs from her all the time, and the shells are incredibly thick and the yolks are a rich, deep orange.

What’s happening to Coastside real estate prices?

Where are Coastside real estate prices headed? I’m interested in hearing from folks who have some experience as buyers or sellers, or professionals, in this market.

When I look at a chart like the NY Times’s chart of the index of home price to rent ratio <http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2006/08/26/weekinreview/27leon_graph2.large.gif> (which is http://krugman blogs nytimes com/2008/08/04/stations-of-the-bubble/), I tend to think that we’re not at the bottom yet, but it’s in view.

We have to be careful, because real estate is not one big market, it’s a bunch of regional markets and the trends also vary by price. But my sense is that prices may still be too high.
