Sheriff's report, August 29
Barry Parr, Sep 1, 2011 at 11:24am

My guess is that no one in Jersey will envy our perpetual summer gloom. Which makes me happy....

Sheriff's report, August 29
Bill Kehoe, Sep 1, 2011 at 11:08am

Is this just another way of trying to make New Jersey look better by filming parts of their episodes on California’s beautiful coast. I don’t want to pick on NJ too much right now because of all the hurricane Irene damage they are suffering…

MCC moves forward with incorporation/annexation study
Barry Parr, Aug 31, 2011 at 2:47pm

Most days I think it would be better than county mis-government, but I suspect a merger would be as difficult to sell in HMB as it would be on the Midcoast. But I also agree with Carl that there are plenty of ways incorporation could go very wrong....

MCC moves forward with incorporation/annexation study
Carl May, Aug 30, 2011 at 5:53pm

Joel, You are right. This is a huge can of worms for those of us who live here, with few possible upside outcomes and many possible downsiders for anyone who appreciates the positive aspects of our unincorporated setting and communities. The subject is…

Pot on public lands - the questions need to change
Georgia Stigall, Aug 26, 2011 at 9:07am

Thanks for your comments Carl! Just for the record though, I did not “politely avoid” mentioning the facts related to Mexican drug cartels - it was just not part of my focus. Of course you are correct in that assessment. In addition to BLM…

Pot on public lands - the questions need to change
Carl May, Aug 25, 2011 at 2:42pm

Using down-home characters and local issues in the Emerald Triangle for supporting examples, a recent article by Matt Jenkins in High Country News does a nice job of summarizing developments for California’s top cash crop since state-level approval…

The Nascent Financial Crisis at Coastside Fire
Vince Williams, Aug 24, 2011 at 10:11am

Ginny, I don’t know if we were both present at the same Special Board meeting on August 16, 2011. One of the three handout scenarios Chief Cole presented was labeled “10 yr bond @$1,200,000 annual payment ($9M).  In this scenario a $9M…

The Nascent Financial Crisis at Coastside Fire
GInny McShane, Aug 24, 2011 at 9:19am

Vince, Chief Cole made a compelling case with his fiscal projection on what areas of the budget would be effected.  His handouts, his comments and the notes I took regarding his answers to board questions were also very thorough.  I followed…

The Nascent Financial Crisis at Coastside Fire
Vince Williams, Aug 24, 2011 at 8:29am

Ginny, I don’t see how the July 27, Board meeting is relevant.  With the action you and the other Board members took on August 16 and the CalPERS Board took on August 17, a bond is now irrelevant. The following link has updated information…

The Nascent Financial Crisis at Coastside Fire
Carl May, Aug 22, 2011 at 2:16pm

Of course, one would expect a major promoter of consolidation of the fire districts to defend it, even though we are now seeing one of the downfalls of such move. Interesting that constituents should be raised as a concern when Point Montara Fire constituents…

The Nascent Financial Crisis at Coastside Fire
Vince Williams, Aug 21, 2011 at 6:29am

Bill, You are welcome. Regional consolidations on the Coastside is a complex subject. There were mutual benefits to the HMBFPD and PMFPD consolidation into CFPD.  PMFPD couldn’t financially stand on it own for more than a year or two. …

Ask Comcast for reasonable Basic Cable service
Leonard Woren, May 30, 2011 at 10:48pm

Coastside County Water District rate increase proposal
Lee McKusick, May 29, 2011 at 5:49pm

For people who use 6 HCF or less of water in a two month billing period, the fixed part of the water bill called “the bimonthly base charge” becomes the dominant part of their water costs. Who are the 6 HCF and less users? The below 6 HCF…
