Caltrans removing travel time signs from Coastside

They are dangerous to pedestians and bikes. Get rid of them.

County hopes to bring more parks to the Midcoast

December 22, 2006
The County should put a little more money out for a bathroom at Moss Beach Park and a little less effort on studying the problem. Maybe waive the permit fees. The county has collected hundreds of thousands of dollars with its rec development fee and refuses to distribute it. I gave up trying to get some of it for the MB park after months of run-around with county council, Rich gordon and County Parks and Rec. Tim Pond El Granada

Workshop on The Druid’s Path comes to HMB

November 25, 2006
I am hosting my own druid path seminar. I'll take you out and get you lost in the woods for $50.00. I'll get you really lost for a $100 and when you find your way home you'll feel like you've done something significant, which you haven't.

Supervisors vote to allow no more housing on Burnham Strip

October 20, 2006
Barb will correct me if I am wrong but didn't the burnham plan and have a "casino", a boardwalk, a train station and other commercial uses at the center of the town of Granada?. maybe the original site has washed away but I would guess that Burnham, as an urban planner, Gag at the thought of gravel and garbage open space at the center of his wheel layout. A recreational park and Trader Joes would be ok with me. Tim Pond

Devil’s Slide to reopen August 4

OK, now we can forget carpooling and other ideas that would reduce traffic until the next disaster. Is global warming a disaster yet? Tim

I believe most of the back of the mountain where the tunnel is is decomposed granite, as is the peak of montara mountain. Hike there and you will the the crumbling granular brown to grey rock on the old road cuts. This is a comparatively stable rock formation. This same kind of rock can be seen on HW1 until you get to the fire tower, where it changes to the layered (stuff (shale, serpentine??). also, the inside of the mountain cannot fall into the ocean because it is on the inside of the mountain.

The early leavers started leaving later when the leaving looked easy. Soon they will leave early again and things will smooth out. everyone should go to the school boalrd meeting and demand busses. I think there is a meeting tonight. Tim

Barret is absolutely right. Maybe we should get a hold of the pettion that the business owners circulated (and then gave to City Council) and go have a friendly talk with them. I think the traffic is hurting their businesses since no tourist in their right mind would sit in traffic for an hour to get here during the weekdays. I suggested a boycott of these businesses early on but that was a little drastic. Also on the weekend there should be some traffic control in the late afternoon for the tourists…

Opinion: CUSD should address school traffic

July 11, 2006
Update: I rode with my 5 year-old to a camp at the middle school at 9 am today and it took 20 minutes from El Granada to HMB. We passed cars nearly all the way. Also, I E-mailed this list to the Board and cirriculum advisor and haven't heard a peep. Tim

Who should replace David Gorn?

NIMBY is an acronym for Not In My Back Yard. it is a derogatory term applied to those who oppose various developments or uses of real estate in their vicinity. The user of the phrase (not the target) usually believes that development is vital or unavoidable and is implying that the target simply wants the probem development or use moved elsewhere--out of their "backyard".

San Mateo County flunks growth management in new report

July 02, 2006
since only two counties scored higher in their total score, (SM is virtually ties with Santa Clara)the headline seems a little slanted. Also, these catagories are all inter-related and the 0 score seems a little bizarre. Isn't farmland preservation related to "growth management"? Can they really say the LCP of the county deserves a "0"? looks like someone has a bone to pick.

Letter: Sign and distribute a petition to Trader Joe’s

June 18, 2006
Growth on the coast is a highly controlled and calculated process that eventually rests in the hands of elected local, county, and state officials. These officials are bound to envionmental and other legal restrictions like the coastal act. All development is also subject to a vast array of review by numerous agencies, boards, and , if necesssary, the courts. to say that we have all been hoodwinked by "developers" is an insult.

If I am for open space and movies, can I be against the foothill, walgreems but still in favor of trader joes and against the war, in the midde for the wave project and permantently ambivilent on illegal immigrants?

Speaker’s authority to appoint alternates to Coastal Commission disputed

June 12, 2006
If the traffic issues are addressed for Highway 1, I can see nothing wrong with using a former quarry site for a hotel. This does not seem like it would add city-bound commute traffic and it would provide needed income to the city. Development of visitor serving facilities at abandoned industrial sites within urban boundaries should be encouraged since it will relieve devlopmental pressures elsewhere and it is good use of essentially abandoned property. (Except for the sewer palnt at the bottom of…

Albertsons closing in HMB

June 06, 2006
OK, here is a the traffic circle idea: Main street is one-way north from 92 to HWY 1. HW1 is south only from Main and 1 to main and 92. 92 is west only from 1 and 92 west to the current 92 and main. there would be no traffic lights necessary between 92 and one north or south. The current shopping center in the middle of the (albertsons) would have an access problem. maybe the city could put a redeveleopment bond to the voters to get that hidoeus strip mall torn down and replacec with different access…

how about a traffic circle with a park and a wetland in the middle.

Caltrans seeking consensus, not approval, from HMB on traffic light

June 02, 2006
I am sure caltrans has the authority to do something like this light in an emergency situation. (IF I am wrong there is something wrong with the law to let a small town sieze a road for its own use.) What they want to do is improve the overall flow of traffic through the light. If a TEST of a metering light constitutes develpment then so does shutting down mainstreet and all the other lane modifications that have been made in the last month. To convieniently say that a permit is needed for this one…

Letter: It’s time to conserve water and save money

unfortunatly, people are going to plant what they want to plant and you cannot regulate every bush, tree, or blade of grass that goes in the ground. You can pass an ordinace on new construction landscaping plans but they then you are excluding all other water users. Also, on the day after a new house is finaled people can plant anything they want anyway. I guess we could hire plant police and have them go around inspecting every now and then. So punishing people who use too much water is exactly…
