Save the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve

March 09, 2011
Hello Sabrina, I have been casually following along on some of the discussion/opinions you and others have shared regarding this trail project. Thank you for raising awareness. Would you (or someone else) please be so kind as to post here in a comment links to the opinions of the other agencies (i.e. GGNRA, etc.) listed within the petition text? I'd like to make an informed decision, but I've admittedly dropped the ball until now. Thanks for any help, Keith

Comcast screwups list

So on a final note, Leonard, Your TiVo guy's suggestion to run setup with another ZIP worked out great for me. I'm in EG so I picked 94019 and it worked perfectly. Thanks for sharing that suggestion.

Larry, I offer a word of caution based on my own experience with Comcast and their customer service. My experience has been that Comcast bundles and re-bundles their service moving channels from one tier of pricing to another. So if you've loaded up on premium channels you would be wise to keep an eye on the charges for those. My latest encounter had to do with Starz channels being removed from my existing package and having them billed out at an additional $19.99/mo! It was seamless from the viewer's…

Comcast screwups list

Leonard, I was able to re-run the TiVo setup last evening in an attempt to get the correct channel lineup. While I did not have time to run through all channels this morning, a spot check of things returned accurate results. During this process I also noticed that the TiVo (Series 2) interface seems improved since the last time I had this problem ~2 months back. Give it try. Good luck, Keith

Cool find, Barry. Can you recall their approximate length? From the surrounding vegetation they appear to be pretty small. I've never been fortunate enough to stumble across the little ones like this. Thanks! (Penguins?! Wonder what species.)

El Granada Traffic & Trails concept plan to be presented, Tuesday

June 30, 2009
Hi Barry, Thanks for posting this information. Some of the ideas are very interesting and seem like the result of people thinking outside the box. I will not be able to make it home tonight in time for the presentation so I hope you or someone will be able to give us an update later in the week. Great work!

HMB Safeway isn’t as expensive as you think, but it’s no bargain

Re: Pak-N-Saves I shop weekly at Pak-N-Save in Emeryville - it's close to work. It's a big store about the size of Linda Mar Safeway and they have a better baby food/gear selection. Their prices are identical to HMB Safeway and their produce is fresher.

Wow - well done! I am glad you took the time to perform this comparison and call out some of issues with HMB Safeway. Now I have some data to present to my wife the next time I return home from HMB Safeway grumbling about their produce which they claim in advertising to have inspected 3 times before it gets placed on the shelf - an inspection process I suspect is performed in a very dark room! Just to be fair, I have always loathed Safeways in all locations for their cluttered and over-merchandised…

SF Bay Oil Spill - Info From Surfrider

November 09, 2007
The Golden Gate National Recreation Area has established a website that is being updated frequently with new information. http://www.nps.gov/goga/sf_oil-spill.htm And a friend from the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory in Marin next to Rodeo Beach tells me that a press conference has just concluded. Among the information passed along was a new warning/request to dog owners: Please keep dogs off of impacted beaches for their safety and to prevent them from scaring oiled birds back into the water where…

Coastside election results

November 07, 2007
Carl, Tough to say. The doors to the building were closed. There were a few people outside at the edge of the parking lot near the steps, but nothing looked too official. I did not get out of the car only because I didn't have my headlamp. And to be honest, the whole idea of voting by headlight on the hood of a car seems a little sketchy. I will ping Mr. W. Slocum later today with my concerns. -kg

I guess it's vote early or vote by mail? Nice to see the power out all over Princeton and the harbor and the polling place(!) when I showed up to vote after work around 6:45PM tonight. And it appeared to have been out for some time since all of the restaurants had found the candles and had seated diners. Oh, and my Comcast is out too... but oh, a rant for another thread. Still nice to see some of my 'non-selections' doing well in the mail-in. Good luck to all in the running. And I so was looking…

Darin’s Monday Photo: Hawk at Poplar Beach

August 24, 2007
It's a juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk. And interestingly, it has been banded! Take a close look at the aluminum band on the right leg. Very cool. I am better at hawks than I am with the sharks. ;-)

You may be right, Carl. I did find some pix of a juvenile salmon shark posted on Oregon's fish and game site - very similar. Wish the teeth and the ridge on the fin were more clearly visible. Still cool - watch yer toes out there folks.

While difficult to get a good look at the shape of the teeth in this photo, I'll go with juvenile White Shark. A quick Google of the porbeagle netted (pun intended) the Pacific range for this species being more southern with pix showing a white trailing edge on the dorsal fin - something that is not evident in Dean's toothy friend. Hopefully some resident expert will confirm an ID, but it's still a pretty cool find at any rate! Thanks for posting.
