Free public forum welcomes Richard North Patterson for a discussion about the upcoming election and his latest novel, “Fall from Grace,” with Lenny Mendonca, director at McKinsey & Company and founder of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company

What:
Richard North Patterson is a New York Times bestselling author of 20 novels including “Balance of Power,” “Conviction” and “The Race.”  Before he became a bestselling novelist, Richard served as an assistant attorney general for the state of Ohio; a trial attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco; and was the SEC’s liaison to the Watergate special prosecutor. On Thursday, November 1, he will be discussing his latest novel, “Fall from Grace,” as well as the impending Presidential election with Lenny Mendonca, director of global management consulting firm McKinsey & Company and founder of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company.

Speaker Biography:

Richard North Patterson is the New York Times bestselling author of “Balance of Power,” “Conviction” and “The Race,” among other titles.  Before penning more than twenty books, Richard served as an assistant attorney general for the state of Ohio; a trial attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., and San Francisco; and was the SEC’s liaison to the Watergate special prosecutor. More recently, Richard was a partner in the San Francisco office of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen, which is now Bingham-McCutchen. In 1993, he retired from the practice of law to devote himself to writing. He has served on the boards of his undergraduate and law schools, the National Partnership for Women and Families, the Family Violence Prevention Fund, PEN Center West, and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, and was chairman of Common Cause, the grassroots citizens’ lobby founded by John Gardner.

He graduated in 1968 from Ohio Wesleyan University and has been awarded their Distinguished Achievement Citation. He is a 1971 graduate of the Case Western Reserve University’s School of Law, and a recipient of their President’s Award for Distinguished Alumni.

Richard has appeared on numerous television shows including Today, Good Morning America, and The CBS Morning Show. His articles on politics, literature, and law have been published in several publications including The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and The Boston Globe. He is also a frequent speaker on political, legal and social issues especially in defense of reproductive rights and against gun violence.

Richard lives in Martha’s Vineyard, San Francisco, and Cabo San Lucas throughout the year with his wife, Dr. Nancy Clair.

Moderator Biography:

Lenny Mendonca is a director (senior partner) in the Washington D.C. and San Francisco offices of McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm.

Lenny is currently the leader of McKinsey’s U.S. state and local public sector practice.  For many years Lenny led the Firm’s knowledge development efforts overseeing the McKinsey Global Institute and the Firm’s communications, which includes the McKinsey Quarterly, and has served for a decade on the McKinsey Shareholder Council (its board of directors). His client work focuses on service to public sector organizations, and over the course of his career he has helped dozens of government, corporate, and nonprofit clients solve their most difficult management challenges.

Lenny is the Chairman Emeritus of the Bay Area Council and the Economic Institute of the Bay Area, and was vice-chair of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council.  He serves on the boards of The New America Foundation, The Committee for Economic Development, Common Cause, California Forward, the Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium, ChildrenNow, and The California Business for Educational Excellence Foundation.  He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and founder and chairman of Fuse Corps.

He received his MBA and certificate in public management from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.  He holds an AB, magna cum laude, in economics from Harvard College.

Lenny lives on the Half Moon Bay coast, south of San Francisco, with his wife and two daughters, where he is the founder and owner of the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company.
