Donations to Puente de la Costa Sur will be eligible for matching funds up to $35,000 from Silicon Valley Gives on May 6 Day of Giving.

The web page is open now and any donations made today will be added tomorrow.

Puente is the only community resource center on the South Coast and the only organization in San Mateo County that focuses primarily on agricultural workers and their families.

Puente’s core services touch more than a thousand residents each year. Here’s how we help make the South Coast a better place:

Health Care and Wellness: The only healthcare on the coast is 911. Puente gets residents signed up for subsidized health insurance, and offers immunization, health education, and free mental health counseling. We also provide access to fresh, affordable food at our Pescadero Grown! Farmers’ Market. Our popular community Zumba classes keep everyone fit and energized.

Education For All: Puente brings high school students on college tours and offers one-on-one mentoring, academic scholarships, and essential school supplies for families who can’t afford them. Our adult education classes teach ESL and give adult learners a chance to earn a degree.

Safety Net Services: Puente is a place of first and last resort for more than 1,000 people each year. We are an emergency resource for information, bedding, clothing and toiletries. We are here for hot meals and food discount programs. We offer bicycles and bike repair, emergency rent money, pro bono tax services, and holiday gift cards each year. We help families claim their CalFresh (food stamp) benefits.

Puente. Building a community that is healthy, inclusive and sustainable.

Great news, Puente made their match. From their email:

Puente exceeded our $35,00 goal, thanks to you.

Thank you to the more than 171 individuals and businesses that donated $36,544.75 through Silicon Valley Gives.

Many thanks to the anonymous donor whose $35,000 challenge grant inspired and motivated us. We are also grateful to our friends at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation for their steadfast support over many years.

All of us on the Puente team are so humbled by the generosity of our beloved community. Again, our deepest thanks.
