Click on the picture to see our tour of the Devil's Slide taped at about noon on Monday, produced by Darin Boville. You can to use the Quicktime controls to pause and back-up to look at certain scenes again.

UPDATE: KTVU ran a story which included some footage of a couple of huge boulders that came down the cliff at the Slide a couple of hours after Darin and I were there.

Barry and Darin,

Thanks so very much.  In the 12 years since the last closure much has changed - and it positive to be able to v iew what is happening with the slip.

Great video—thanks for posting. What’s especially noticable is the complete silence—none of that unpleasant noise caused by construction equipment that might, you know, be fixing it.

Thank you for the video and also the latest articles about the slide situation. It is really great to see up close what is happening out there. I live on the coastside and commute through the section (in addition to find day’s good surf spots).

Here we go again… (Matt Berman wrote “... the complete silence—none of that unpleasant noise caused by construction equipment that might, you know, be fixing it.”)  While that’s funny as written, I gotta say it’s deja vu, as in definition 2 at http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/deja%20vu—“something overly or unpleasantly familiar.”

In an interview shown on the 11pm news, someone from CalTrans said that “due to how wet it is, they didn’t know when they would be able to start working on it.”  In 1995, they waited 2-3 months to start working on it.

Of course if all they’re going to do is push some dirt around and then slather some asphalt on top, I guess it does need to be dry.  If people can build houses on 100% or worse slopes up at the top of El Granada, CalTrans can build a roadway (think 200 foot clear-span bridge) that won’t fail due to rain.

If they wanted to.

Barry,  The video played on my Mac.  I recommend everyone watch.  Kathryn
