I just noticed that the weather reporting service that Coastsider.com uses gives the weather at the San Carlos airport weather station for it’s information for Half Moon Bay.  Other weather services use the San Francisco airport weather station for their information.  I was wondering, does anyone know if there are any weather stations Coastside that these weather services can use? Also, is there an online weather service that actually uses it/them?  Thanks!

If you go to http://www.weatherunderground.com and select the link for personal weather stations, you can find individuals with local weather stations, currently there seems to be only 1 in Half Moon Bay

The widget I’m using was the only one I could find that gives you a *forecast*, rather than current conditions (which is what you see everywhere else). Weather Underground gives you current conditions. I don’t think current conditions are all that useful, and I’ve found the forecast we get from the widget to be pretty good, although predicting Coastside weather is a mug’s game.

I’m working on a solution to this problem.

There is a weather station at Cunha Middle School through Weather Bug.  It is not always working, but when it does you can get current conditions.  Sometimes you’ll be taken to the main Weather Bug site because the Cunha site is “unavailable”.

I would love to see a network of weather stations on the Coastside in varying locations with showing current conditions, as we have many microclimates.  It would also be wonderful to have rainfall totals for the Coastside with a comparison with “normal” seasonal rainfall for our area (as on the Chronicle weather page).  The Review used to have such a chart.

I have added seven-day forecast for Montara to the right-hand column, below “Recent Comments”, next to tides.  This is a National Weather Service forecast.

The position and format are experimental, but the forecast itself should be pretty reliable.

This is for a weather station at Coral Reef, just a block off Hwy 1. The NWS thinks it is for HMB, I suppose because
Coral Reef homes use the HMB zip code.

But at least it’s a coastside location.
