Acupuncture can treat a wide range of ailments. Besides alleviating pain anywhere in the body, it also helps anything from anxiety and insomnia to gastro-intestinal issues, even the common cold! A community clinic differs from a standard acupuncture office by having one large treatment room. By attending to multiple patients who are in recliners, we are able to charge a sliding scale of $25-45.

Kim Reece, L.Ac. and Jane Kang, L.Ac. opened the doors of Family Room Community Acupuncture, Pacifica’s first community acupuncture clinic, at the end of March. In celebration, they will hold an Open House on Sunday, May 1, 2011. There will also be music and art by local talent, as well as a raffle with an opportunity to win several prizes donated by Pacifica businesses, including Family Room.. The Open House will run from 2-5pm.

Both acupuncturists received their Master’s degrees from San Francisco’s American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Kim has years of experience working at a community clinic in San Francisco. Jane sees patients in Glen Park and has treated many types ailments, with a focus in fertility issues.

Acupuncture is a healing art that has been around for 2500 years. Its beneficial effects have stood the test of time. The World Health Organization officially recognizes that acupuncture can help over 25 ailments, as determined through clinical trials. Acupuncture also works well in tandem with western treatment. For instance, many cancer patients will get acupuncture to mitigate the side-effects of chemotherapy. Often insurance companies do not cover acupuncture treatments. Standard offices charge anywhere from $80-200 for an initial appointment. The community acupuncture model allows for initial appointments to cost $40-60.

The clinic is open Mon-Sat, 8 hours a day. Initial appointments involve a more extensive intake, as well as additional $15 paperwork fee. Follow-up treatments are $25-45 and take about 45 minutes. The clinic also offers a limited herbal pharmacy.
