As many of you know, the Chronicle reported the other day that the Ross chain of discount clothing stores (nearest one in Pacifica at Linda Mar) is buying up many of the old Albertson’s locations for their new stores. It wasn’t yet known if our location will turn into a Ross or is sister chain DD Discounts (or would be left empty for now).

So a few questions come to mind:

1)  Does anyone know if they plan to move in here?

2)  Does anyone really want them to move in here?

3)  Are the powers-that-be in Half Moon Bay attempting to have any voice in what goes in there and, if so, what is the opinion at the HMB City Council about the possibility of a Ross/DD Discount store?

My view is that this is a highly visible location and an important one to the community. It would be a shame to let this opportunity to improve the community slip by…

If Trader Joe didn’t want to open a store here, why would Ross? Unless they thought there would be enough tourist traffic to generate a profit…

Has anyone heard any more about the New Leaf offer that was supposedly in the works?

Here’s the story.  It’s not clear from the story, but I would suspect they are buying stores that are owned by Albertson’s, which does not describe the location in HMB.
