Past meeting:
HMB, November 14, 7-9 p.m.—WWF sponsors Public Meetings to Protect Marine Sanctuaries
DO YOU CARE ABOUT AND WANT TO HELP CALIFORNIA’S MARINE ENVIRONMENT?
Then please attend a WWF public meeting in your area that will equip you to take
action for the marine environment off the coast of central California, one
of the most diverse marine environments in the world.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
At the meeting, you’ll learn about a draft plan for the future of three
marine sanctuaries. You’ll also get help in preparing either written
comments to submit on the plan or a public statement to make at an upcoming
public hearing.
THERE IS A DRAFT MANAGEMENT PLAN…
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has prepared a draft
management plan for the three sanctuaries—the Monterey Bay, Gulf of the
Fallarones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries—and is seeking
public input.
Learn about the draft management plan and find out where and when you can
comment at a public hearing:

WHY ACTION IS NEEDED TO PROTECT MARINE SANCTUARIES:
Unfortunately, Monterey Bay and the adjacent Gulf of the Fallarones and
Cordell Bank Sanctuaries are not adequately protected and the nearby large
and growing human population puts enormous pressure on them.
FIVE PUBLIC MEETINGS ARE SCHEDULED:
WWF and a coalition of other conservation organizations will hold five
public meetings to prepare citizens to speak out. At the meetings, experts
will explain major issues addressed in the plan and will help you in
formulating your comments. WWF staff will draw on our experience serving
on six advisory councils which helped shape the draft plan. You’ll also
enjoy dazzling underwater photography and view a special film featuring
marine protected areas.
