Human Services Caseworker
THE POSITION
Caseworker in the Information and Referral/Emergency Services Program. Candidates must be familiar with San Mateo County human services resources. The current opening is 20 hours per week. This job is Monday through Friday.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Interview clients to assess the need for services; providing case management and developing case work plans; providing crisis intervention; discussing personal problems and explaining available resources, determining eligibility for direct services or financial assistance programs; providing either direct services or information and referral to services available in county as appropriate; maintaining accurate records on all client contacts; participating in multi-disciplinary case conferences.
Education and Experience
Education equivalent to a bachelor?s degree in a human services field, possession of a Human Services Certificate of Proficiency, a Family Development Certificate of Completion, and or three years of experience in human services work. Bilingual Spanish and English.
Knowledge of:
English and Spanish language (both written and spoken preferred).
Human Services Resources in San Mateo County.
Methods of handling crisis situations.
Public relations skills.
Case management techniques.
Microsoft Office or similar software.
Ability to:
Effectively relate to people from all social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Follow instructions.
Learn quickly.
Be empathetic and caring in the most adverse of situations.
Be a good listener.
Work well with people in a team capacity.
Work under pressure.
Deal with high volume clientele.
Effectively work with community and public agencies.
