To celebrate its first year of business in Half Moon Bay, New Leaf Community Markets is giving a party on Saturday, June 20 to thank its customers and local growers and vendors who supply the store, and to recognize the local nonprofits with whom New Leaf has partnered. During the year, New Leaf has donated a total of $43,631.55 to thirty three different local non-profit organizations and schools.

?I think we are all thrilled with the perfect fit New Leaf has been to the Coastside. New Leaf really understands ?community? and has been very supportive of our non-profits. A great asset to our business community as well. We congratulate them on a banner first year!? said Charise Hale McHugh, president and CEO, Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber.
Festivities include the cutting of a cake at noon for everyone to share. There will also be a community BBQ from noon to 2pm serving a hot dog or veggie dog, and a bag of potato chips for a $1 donation that will go to a local nonprofit. All day, raffles for gift baskets will be held and door prizes will be awarded for gift cards and other items.

“It’s been a great year getting to know and serving Coastsiders. We value the partnerships we have developed with customers, local growers and vendors who supply our store with high quality organic and natural foods, and local nonprofits who play an important role in the area,” said New Leaf Founder and Co-owner, Scott Roseman. “The community celebration on June 20 is a way we can say thank you to Coastsiders who share our values about healthy foods, buying local, and community building,” said Rex Stewart, New Leaf Co-owner.

New Leaf’s community giving programs have supported local nonprofits devoted to homeless assistance, agriculture, health and wellness, women?s health, children?s education, the arts, mental health, and social justice. New Leaf’s programs include Community Days where 5% of the day’s sales are donated to a nonprofit who sets up an information table in the store, the Envirotoken program, where 10 cents is donated to local nonprofits selected by customers each time a customer uses their own large grocery bag, as well as sponsorships, donations, and E-cards, New Leaf?s school script program.

“The donation we received from New Leaf enabled us to offer dental services to many additional pregnant women without dental insurance who otherwise may not have received care. Improving the oral health of pregnant women it is very important as mothers? dental disease directly impacts the health of the babies,” said Julia Mc Keon, Sonrisas Executive Director. The HEAL (Health, Environment, Agriculture & Learning) Project was also a beneficiary of a New Leaf Community Day. “We are very grateful for New Leaf’s support of our comprehensive educational program that engages children in their community, the environment and their food and empowers them to make healthy choices. Our partnership is a good fit because both New Leaf and HEAL support good health for people and the planet,” said Lisa Wasilewski, HEAL program director.
