The Pescadero Steelhead Festival is organized by the Coastal Alliance for Species Enhancement (CASE), a local non-profit dedicated to protecting all the native wildlife in the coastal watersheds. The event features exhibits, demonstrations, and educational presentations to raise public awareness about the need for immediate restoration of the natural habitat in the Pescadero Marsh and surrounding areas.

Home to hundreds of native species of fish and other animals, and a major wintering ground for migratory birds, the Marsh is now in a critical state. This area was once teeming with several varieties of fish, including the native Steelhead, and many other species of marine life, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds.

Now many of these species are listed as threatened or endangered, or are already gone from our native waterways. Recent estimates show the Steelhead population plummeting from more than 25,000 rearing juveniles to less than 1,000, in just the past two decades.

The Steelhead Festival will generate much-needed funds for initiatives to restore the Marsh to healthy conditions and help keep it that way for the enjoyment of future generations.

CASE is a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed to expedite critical restoration projects to preserve the biological diversity of coastal areas while working to ensure continued public enjoyment of those areas. The group’s founders are lifelong residents of the Northern California coast, recreational anglers, and community leaders who have seen firsthand the rapid deterioration of its streams and species in the past two decades. They are dedicated to reversing this decline and preserving this resource for future generations.
