MCC trails meeting, Wednesday

May 10, 2009
This should be a very informative session. Personally glad the time was adjusted slightly earlier, I'm going to bed pretty early these days. One lands agency I can't help but miss is the SFPUC,(san francisco Public Utilities Commission) which I believe is the governing body that oversee's the watershed lands that border every one of our communities to the East. Question, did the SFPUC decline to attend? Or, will a rep from SFPUC be attending? Thanx Sabrina for spearheading this event. Jim Sullivan

Park Service meeting on Rancho Corral de Tierra plan, Thurs Jan 29

January 20, 2009
I heartily agree on including dog walking over the course of the upcoming mtng. The historical use(abuse) of these lands by the motorcycles-quads-4 wheel drive trucks+jeeps has left unmistakable scars on the seemingly every hillside. These motorized folks continue to access this property from the Pacifica side also. As an individual, I have been discreetly taking photographs of every one that I encounter. I fwd the info to the relevant authorities, they currently being the Pacifica Police dept, McNee…

POST breaks ground for new and improved trails at Pillar Point Bluff

August 26, 2008
The Coastal Trail is multi use, every inch of it. If one desires a walking only area to recreate, one needs only to walk to any SM Co park, where bicycles, dogs are currently forbidden from accessing trails. State Parks also have many existing walking only trails.

POST breaks ground for new and improved trails at Pillar Point Bluff

(Different from the aggressive bicycle crowd), Good Morning Carl, Too bad you preface your comment, which is, on the whole, very well presented , with such a negative stereotype of cyclists. I'll just say that the coastal trail is a shared use route, the only separation between users I've seen is the rental horse folks adjustment. My experience while using the coastal trail many hundreds of time's, both walking and pedaling , is one of courtesy amongst users.

POST breaks ground for new and improved trails at Pillar Point Bluff

Great to see these efforts by POST . One thing has me worried, as a 50+year user of this entire area above+below the cliffs, we've been bicycling up there in the last 15-20 yrs. Bicycle riders of all ages have used these trails to avoid the high traffic'd roadways, especially on summer wknds. I hope-expect to see bicycle access respected on this portion of the eventual Coastal Trail. Anyone know which users exactly who will be assured access on this property? Jim Sullivan-Linda Mar

Coastal Commission faces budget cuts

August 04, 2008
OK, I'll bite, I heard it was so cold last December the realtors had their hands in their OWN pockets... (for clarity's sake, I'm neither a Realtor nor an Attorney) As far as government being too big, I've heard this mantra for so long and seemingly every time belts are tightened, it's the quality of life Gov programs that take the hit's time and again. Mental health, health care, Parks, Coastal protection. Could these programs stand some efficiency reviews? No doubt about it, although I personally…

Coastal Commission faces budget cuts

August 01, 2008
Yeah, heard that joke before, However, I've also found this to be true: "Everyone hates lawyers until they need one" BTW, No, I'm not an attorney. I do not support the Draconian cuts by our governor, cutting the coastal commision eviscerates the very core of public interest oversight entity that ensure's California's wild coastal heritage. I enjoy this line in the song America The Beautiful America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea.…

POST transfers Mindego Hill to MROSD, completes fundraising

July 14, 2008
Grand, that this piece of property is now in public ownership. (TIC) Trouble is, from my perspective, it may as well still be in private hands. Guided tours? This is, and will continue to run as a working ranch, if I read MROSD's plan's right. My tax dollars will undoubtedly go to maintain it, patrol it, and , if I choose to visit, I'll have to set up a guided tour? Midpeninsula Regional open Space(MROSD) now extends its open space district over to the coastal area. I attended multiple "workshops"…

Opinion: Money is need for for Midcoast parks—could Parks For The Future help?

May 16, 2008
Dave Holland moving on, I hope not.... for awhile anyway. I absolutely support Measure O. Mr Holland's forward thinking in regards to parks use, specifically beginning to seriously study bicycle use within many County parks, is refreshing to me as a bicyclist+Pacifica resident. I also own a dog, and with passing funding for county parks, MAYBE, we can study future area's for appropriate dog access too. As time passes, I have come to the conclusion that pretty much everything seems to be related to…

MROSD holding open house for the La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve plan

November 24, 2007
I'm enthused about this plan almost completely.... I say almost because there has been an historical use of this preserve in the lower(Driscoll Ranch, directly across from the town of La Honda) area for many years by bicyclists. The current Midpen plan excludes bicycles entirely from this preserve..... These are Ranch roads almost entirely on the lower flanks of this preserve, extremely wide vehicle roads with excellent lines of sight. Even many of the Equestrians and hikers participating in the…
