MCC moves forward with incorporation/annexation study

September 06, 2011
Leonard is right on. The only way the coastside could become one city, is by becoming a Charter City with a seven member city council elected within their own district. That way no district could control the functioning of the city. Just think. All the functions of Coastside City would be controlled by the seven council members with appointments by them to all the special districts that we now endure. John

Coastsider endorses Dave Mandelkern for Treasurer-Tax Collector

May 21, 2010
Barry. You have me beat. I've only known Dave for thirteen years. When I was the Foreman of the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury in 1997, David Mandelkern was absolutely the best grand juror that served that year. John Lynch

Can we reform the way we elect the county Board of Supervisors? Tonight

June 24, 2009
An important reminder that this evening David Pine will give his presentation at the Johnston House Depot from 7:30 - 9:30 PM on electing members to the SMC Board of Supervisors by districts rather that at large. John Lynch

Can we reform the way we elect the county Board of Supervisors? Tonight

June 19, 2009
This should be a "no-brainer". Regardless of your party affiliation, we should all get behind the concept of district elections rather than elect supervisors ar large thus requiring support from the whole county. There are 58 counties in California. Only two elect their supervisors at large, San Mateo and a small upstate county. To run as an at large candidate cost four times as much as if you were running only within your own district, Therefore, you have to gain the support of the special interests.…

Letter: LCP prefers low-cost housing at Beachwood as part of a solution

April 19, 2009
Jack Kilpatrick wrote "It has been shown that low cost, high density housing has been a dismal failure and a nescience and breeding grounds for crime and drug usage.". Would he claim that the Main Street Housing Project and the Farm Labor Housing Project, both established by the Mid-Peninsula Regional Housing Coalition, are dismal failures?

Letter: MCC restructuring is minor compared to what’s needed for Board of Supervisors

February 08, 2009
Midcoast Community Council / Board of Supervisors The 1997 San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury issued a report regarding the appointing process and confusing interlocking Boards of Directors of the various transportation agencies operating in San Mateo County. There are ten different boards and agencies that affect transportation planning, issues and implementation in San Mateo County. When Rich Gordon runs for Assembly, he won’t need your vote

January 25, 2009
When i first met Rich Gordon it was more than a year before he announced that he was going to run for the Board of Supervisors representing the 3rd district (Coastside). At that time he told me that he had NO intention of EVER running for higher office. While he was somewhat weak on environmental issues, I decided to support him. In fact, the first fundraiser he had was held at our house. It is my opinion that he has not held true to his convictions that he evoked nearly twelve years ago.

Editorial: Senator Yee’s SB863 gets it right

August 28, 2008
Barry You hit the nail squarely on its head. We need to call Senator Leland Yee, "Saint Leland of the Coastside."

Letter: Fourth of July Spy

July 07, 2008
The HMB spy man asked what day we were celebrating on July 4th. My response was the Declaration of Independence which was signed on July 2nd but we celebrate it on July 4th.

I was sitting next to Deb getting people to register to vote and I can confirm what she has stated was the truth. I know the man from Half Moon Bay. He even asked me what July 4th commemorated. John Lynch

Landowners sue HMB, saying Oak Avenue Park is on their property

June 20, 2008
This appears to be the case where city staff was wagging the Council's tail by not allowing the Council to discuss this in open or closed session. Does the Council or city staff control how the city functions?

HMB Safeway isn’t as expensive as you think, but it’s no bargain

Letter: Why I support Richard Holober for State Assembly

Letter: Why I support Richard Holober for State Assembly

May 30, 2008
Yes Barry. I had each of the Democratic candidates at my house to provide their positions on the important issues. Not in a debate format but where the attendees could ask any and all questions of the candidate(s). I was most impressed with Richard Holober. One thing he has accomplished as President of the SMC Community College district was to provide affordable housing foe employees of the district. Shortly they will provide affordable housing for 40 plus employees of Canada College. Plans are underway…
