Whole Foods CEO John Mackey & Kathryn Slater Carter agree on Healthcare

"About 80 percent of the calls handled by Engine Company 10 are medical emergencies because the firehouse serves one of the city’s poorest areas, where few residents have health insurance, doctors’ checkups are rare, and medical problems are left to fester until someone dials 911." First rule of business: Don’t insult your customers. When John Mackey argued in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that American citizens do not have any intrinsic right to health care he succeeded in violating that fundamental rule. Second rule of business: Don’t talk smack about your competitors. In 2007 Mackey was caught posting negative comments (trash talk) about a competitor on message boards in an effort to push down the stock price for at least seven years. Mackey posted to Yahoo Finance forums…

Beachwood—Create a sustainable destination

August 25, 2009
Hello Carl, Good point, Beachwood is a living sustainability lab. Why build a greenwashing "sustainability" center? Perhaps it's better to renovate one of the warehouse buildings in Princeton into a working Sustainability Lab. If HMB city government decides the property is unacceptable as open space I hope they will consider the site for a boardwalk to educate people about native plants. This trail would hopefully be well designed with minimal impact on the ecosystem. The plants, animals and micro-organisms…

Beachwood—Create a sustainable destination

A sustainability lab is an excellent idea! I hope a self-guided nature walk with educational information about native plants could be part of the sustainability lab. I imagine a boardwalk located over the wetland. The boardwalk would be thoughtfully placed in a location that would do minimal damage to the environment and wildlife. It would be awesome if a classroom was included in the Lab for BIOINTENSIVE Sustainable MIni-Farming Workshops.

Without health care reform, the average premium for family coverage would rise from $12,298 (the 2008 average) to $23,842 by 2020—a 94 percent increase. Traffic and trails on the Midcoast: What would you do? Workshops June 25-30

June 14, 2009
I hope the Midcoast turns out in force at the workshops and voices concerns about "urban" planning. The oversized bridge at Mirada Surf West is an example of "urban" level planning that is inappropriate for the location. What a waste of tax dollars! A much smaller bridge specifically for pedestrians and bicyclists would have cost less. Someone sitting at a desk in Redwood City dreamed up an overdeveloped bridge to cross a tiny creek and found grant funding for it. Going forward I hope the County…
