The Review deserves credit for good photography and nice design; its unfortunate the news reporting falls into the infotainment category so frequently.
Clay's excuse, "lack of understanding about the governance" reveals a lazy approach.

Do we have to wait for Clay to finish his course on how to obtain public records before learning more about the alleged financial mismanagement at the San Mateo County Farm Bureau and Half Moon Bay’s Beautification Committee? "I've been doing some research and talking with knowledgeable people -- both on the Coastside and well beyond -- about how such organizations should operate and the level of accountability we should all expect from the charities and foundations we trust...I realized my own…

It would be helpful if organizations asking for donations for an event with a checkered past should be extra transparent.
It is my understanding that the American Legion was not involved with the missing funds when the Light Up the Sky Committee President was collecting money.
July 21, 2010
I assume the American Legion has a plan to be transparent with the money raised. I would like to hear the details. I remember when a neighbor was elected president of the fireworks committee several years ago. Unfortunately the fireworks committee overlooked the new presidents federal prison record. It was alleged that allot of money went missing. The president was the only person with keys to the collection boxes located in stores around HMB. When it was discovered that money was missing the fireworks…

If the gas station already sells beer and wine who cares if they sell liquor? I would be concerned if the gas station was selling cigarettes or alcohol to minors. Does anyone know if that has been a problem? I hope the MCC will find bigger fish to fry at future Special Meetings! Agenda for Special Meeting July 21, 2010 7:00 p.m. 1. How to best get community feedback on items like the Moss Beach Liquor License, new cell towers etc. 2. Proposed Liquor License in Moss Beach. Possible Draft Letter Sponsor:…

The Review editorial was short on details. What's the deal? Who is alleging that Pumpkin Festival funds are missing from the Beautification Committee bank account? I remember when the fireworks funds went missing years ago and it tuned out the president of the Fireworks Committee was not spending the money on fireworks. Is an investigation being called for by the Beautification Committee? Who is on the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee?

NORWALK — Superior Court Judge Raul Sahagun has dismissed a case of defamation of character filed by three Bellflower City Council members against activist John Drayer, who, the judge said, was using his freedom of speech when he called the officials “racists.” The comments came last fall when Drayer criticized the city for it’s at-large elections, saying voting by council districts, as in neighboring Downey, would give minority residents a better chance for election to the City Council.…

ADA Trail Surfaces are Not Limited to Asphalt A16.2.1 TRAIL SURFACE Trail surfaces are required to be firm and stable. There are a spectrum of surfaces considered firm and stable and appropriate surfaces are not limited to surfacing materials such as asphalt and concrete. Many naturally occurring surfaces, such as crushed aggregate or soils containing some clay and a spectrum of sieve sizes, are considered firm and stable. Other natural surfaces may also become firm and stable when combined with…

Two CRC votes were taken on District vs. At Large elections. The first vote resulted in a majority of the Committee members (11 to 4) favoring “at large” voting. The chair, Sean Foote declining to state a preference. Although this was a pointless vote it was interesting to hear why each member favored one system over another. The second vote was in favor (14 to 2) of recommending that a measure be placed on the November 2, 2010 ballot. It was interesting that Kathy Everitt nominated by League…

When is the San Mateo County unincorporated Midcoast going to benefit from Jim Eggemeyer's "extensive experience working with the community"?
To-date Jim Eggemeyer has been extremely evasive and unwilling to work with the community. He refuses to respond to numerous community letters, emails, phone and walk-in requests for an update on the Big Wave Project EIR.

It was reported in the HMB Review that the farmer was providing highly contaminated creek water for his workers to cook with. "State health guidelines allow drinking water to have a nitrate content no higher than 45 milligrams per liter. When county health officials first inspected the farm on April 29, they tested a water sample from a faucet in one of the employee homes. The test showed a nitrate content of 205 milligrams. County health inspectors returned one week later to do a second test, and…

If you want to talk directly with Supervisor Gordon you should call (650-363-4569) his office and ask if he will actually be at office hours.
Rich typically delegates office hours to Matt, Andrew or Preston.
