SF warned over killing endangered species at Sharp Park Golf Course

September 30, 2008
I would be very sad to lose this alternative course on the Coastside. I wish that we could have the course and not run over snakes with a lawnmower but I really think the needs of the human community ought to count at least as highly as the needs of the snakes and frogs, especially when considering a community resource that has been available for 70+ years.

Coastsiders invited to Community Day at Pilarcitos Quarry, Saturday

September 18, 2008
This is a fantastic event, we try to go every year and our kids love climbing on all of the equipment and sliding down the mountains of gravel/dirt on the site.

Find out about Cub Scouting at Farallone View, Thursday

September 16, 2008
Just don't plan to get too much sleep on that submarine trip. Each year a few boys try to see if they can make it all through the night without sleep and one or two actually make it. It's a great trip, though, and we're looking forward to going again this year. But we'll be sure to get in the front of the line when we board the boat so we can get top bunks in the sleeping quarters this year!

Just the facts: Where’s the water for CCWD?

July 02, 2008
I'm sure Paul's analysis is correct and very useful to the CCWD customers. And I will readily admit that he knows more about the current state of both MSWD and CCWD than I. I will further grant that he has a right to take umbrage with attacks that have been leveled against him in this forum, though I would think better of everyone concerned if they'd deal with these issues privately. My only point was that, as a MSWD customer I don't feel particularly well-served by the current board and would rather…

Just the facts: Where’s the water for CCWD?

July 02, 2008
Matthew 7:5 "First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother's eye." As a resident of Montara I sincerely hope that our elected board members are tightly focused on increasing the water supply for MWSD customers while improving the water quality, lowering our water bills and in building strategic alliances with neighboring communities.

Letter: July 4th fireworks danger

June 16, 2008
The fireworks over the Harbor/Bay injures horses? Was that because the noise scared them? Or was it private individuals firing off their own fireworks that did the damage? I'm having a hard time understanding how the fireworks injures the animals. I'm not discounting what you say, I just don't understand. Can you help me out here? We live on the far north side of Montara and every year we worry about the beach-goers shooting off fireworks into the meadow at Rancho Coral de Tierra and setting it on…

POST is buying Wavecrest

August 16, 2007
I'm sure there will be people who feel that this is a bad thing and I won't begin to think that I understand all the ways that this will affect the community. For my part, however, I say this is great. I'm very happy to think that there will still be big open views and room to wander around in the open fields above the beach. Thanks, POST! And if I could ask for just one more thing, could you please be sure to sell the land to someone who will continue to let us walk and ride bikes and horses on…

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

November 07, 2006
Okay, I promised myself I would not respond to any more of this discussion but I can't help myself. "she has a large, menacing and incontinent poodle" That is hilarious.

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

November 06, 2006
Who? Me? I'm not attacking anyone and I've never written Ms. Fisher's name before today, certainly not in some other forum. I honestly thought I was asking reasonable questions that Ms. Fisher might want to address and could then lay this whole thing to rest. If her explanations are reasonable I'd still consider voting for her. And for what it's worth I don't really like it when people park a bunch of cars in front of my house or trespass in the open lot near us so I can understand someone wanting…

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

November 06, 2006
Barry, I think the leafletting of parked cars with notices that say "no parking" is arguably quite different than putting a notice of an upcoming bake sale or other event. One is informational and the other seems intended to deliberately misinform. That's the nature of my question.

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

November 06, 2006
I don't have a firm opinion on this matter, I'm still trying to fill out my sample ballot before it's time to go to the polls tomorrow morning. Since Pam Fisher has commented on one of the postings here maybe she'd be willing to address some of the other points that have been made, such as: Has she been taking photographs of children entering the school grounds? If so, for what purpose? Did she attempt to block access to the school grounds as was stated above? If so, were the actions conducted in…

MROSD board will appoint member to term ending in November 2008

August 25, 2006
First, let me say that I am a HUGE supporter of MROSD and their preservation activities. That being said, however, this announcement is really disappointing. It continues a pattern that the District has established in recent years. Every time a Board member decides to quit, they do so mid-term. This lets the rest of the Board choose a successor who fits their mold for a good Board member and then that successor gets to run as an incumbent in the next election, assuring themselves of a win. An incumbent…

Accident on Hwy 92 muddies impact of HMB’s emergency traffic measures

April 05, 2006
I left my house in Montara at 6:15 on Tuesday and arrived at work in Palo Alto at 7:15. Today, Wedsnesday, I left the house at 6:30 and arrived at work at 9:40. I didn't reach HMB until 8:30ish. I guess tomorrow I wake up a half hour earlier.

Who has the best cell phone coverage on the Coastside?

January 23, 2006
Cingular has an antenna in Montara near 11th street so there's great service right around "downtown" Montara. The signal dies out as you go north or south just a little bit, though, because the directional antenna is pointed directly into the ocean to serve the boat traffic (that's what the customer service technician told me when I called to ask). We can occassionally get signal with Cingular on Third Street but I've never been able to get service at Farralone View.

Current phase of Devil’s Slide tunnel will last until next spring

September 06, 2005
Has anyone heard details about the "wetlands expansion and restoration" that has begun just north of 2nd Street in Montara? They've begun rerouting some of the walking trails and have posted signage within the last few days. I have asked for details from CalTrans several times but have thus far not received a response. I'm not sure what wetlands expansion and restoration means in terms of this project. but it sounds suspiciously similar to "creating a West Nile Virus breeding ground 200 yards directly…
