Rock slides delay Slide reopening, endanger visitors

April 04, 2006
These are fabulous pictures Barry. I am curious as to the similarity between this current slide (location/circumstances) and the earlier one where CalTrans kept the road closed and held off repairing it. Looking back, the tunnel initiative that the people of San Mateo County voted for included a promise that there would be a major de-watering project it the initiative passed. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT??? Maybe someone should get hold of Montara resident, Nancy Maule’s geologist to get this needed de-watering…

Devil’s Slide is closed indefinitely

April 03, 2006
The tunnel initiative that the people of San Mateo County voted for included a promise that there would be a major de-watering project it the initiative passed. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT??? The initiative also promised one "tunnel" with one lane going north and one lane going south NOT, two tunnels wide enough that all it would take would be a can of paint to convert the tunnels into a four-lane underground freeway! Looks to me like someone should get hold of Montara resident, Nancy Maule's geologist…

The recount is over, and Bonnie McClung is the victor

December 22, 2005
This entire Coastside owes Mike Ferreira a world of thanks for challenging the highly suspicious Half Moon Bay City Council election results and placing this challenge ON RECORD. The results of this election will FOREVER carry suspicion in everyone's mind! The people of both Half Moon Bay and the Mid-Coast will truly be at at deep loss without Mike's caring, well-studied input into decisions made by the City Council. Bonnie McClung will NEVER achieve the kind of integrity achieved by Mike Ferreira…

Coastal Commission staff spanks Midcoast LCP update

December 05, 2005
I'm still very concerned that the CCC does NOT understand & has done NOTHING TO CURE the County/Special Interest Groups set-up of the Mid-Coast via the exploitive, ill-conceived LCP Amendment 3-00 (Part A) that would be like CANCER devouring the Mid-Coast body & needs to be TOTALLY EXCISED from our LCP, LCP Update & General Plan Amendment to the Housing Element. The County/Special Interest Groups have interlinked exploitive schemes in LCP Amendment 3-00 (Part A) in the LCP, LCP Update & General Plan…

Mike Ferreira asks for recount

December 05, 2005
Thank-you, Mike, this recount and investigation is WELL in order! It is only because of pressures put onto the County by well-studied HMB Planning Commissioners, the previous & current City Council that we are seeing any kind of movement by the Coastal Commission to try to get a handle on the run-away, out-law County and their fraudulent "LCP Update" with all of it's inter-linked schemes to exploit the hundreds, if not thousands of antiquated 25' Sub-Standard Lots not even represented in the out-dated,…

Supervisors’  vision for the Midcoast: double the number of houses (and cars)

November 29, 2005
Here are my remaining points to be related to the BOS for their Public Hearing on Dec. 6th that you can either write to them about by faxing ALL Supervisors at either 363-1916 or 599-1027 or, present to them in oral comments at the Public Hearing. - The County's definition of where "public views" occur is too restrictive (the only public views that matter to the County are those from coastal access routes which means that only views from Rt. 1 count and only visitor views matter). In truth, public…

Supervisors’  vision for the Midcoast: double the number of houses (and cars)

November 29, 2005
The County BOS Public Hearing on the County's "LCP Update" will be held on Dec. 6th from 2pm to 5pm at the Ted Adcock Center in HMB. Please attend and/or Fax letters to ALL Supervisors at either 363-1916 or 599-1027 and relate your concerns re: their proposals. Here are some points to write or speak on: - County should match HMB's Measure D (1%) annual residential growth rate so infrastructure we participated in paying for and the impacts of dev't are equitably allocated and felt betw City and Midcoast.…

Supervisors’  vision for the Midcoast: double the number of houses (and cars)

November 28, 2005
The purpose of an LCP Update is to take a look back at the amount of development that has taken place since the LCP was adopted and then take careful inventory of remaining Coastal Resources and create stronger protections to preserve them and also do a Carrying Capacity Analysis - THAT would show that the Mid-Coast is nearly built out NOW but, County Planning Staff didn't do that. Instead, the County Planning Staff used the out-dated, over-estimated LCP Buildout Numbers from the 1980's that don't…

Did a developer steal this woman’s camera?

The letter below is FYI. As you can see, the Coastal Commission was ready to change their jurisdictional map to show THIS Ephemeral Stream as a Coastal Resource -- does anyone doubt the quailfications of the Coastal Commission's Biologist, Dr. John Dixon, who examined THIS Ephemeral Stream and determined it to be a Coastal Resource? Only BIG MONEY and DIRTY POLITICS stood in the way of them changing their jurisdictional boundaries and now, both they and San Mateo County Planning Dept. now HAVE Ken…

Ry, As soon as I saw your message above, I asked Leonard Woren to go and meet with you (I don't drive) to document what you described was happening. Leonard reported that he went down a steep slope & witnessed what was going on and as he went down further he noted that there was no water in the stream for whatever reason. Unlike Kathryn's description of the Ephemeral Stream/Streambank that the County & MCCC are allowing to be raped by callous & exploitive contractors who have attained "permission…

Gone, This Stream feeds willows&wetlands - base of Quarry Park Trail&SR1 where it flows through a culvert under SR1 & feeds the willows&wetlands on the Mirada Surf Bluff at Magellan&SR1 year around-proof that this Stream IS perennial. I'm including Ken Lajoie's BOS presentation letter re: this Stream. This is meant to assist you/others in understanding the importance of this Ephemeral Stream & the need to preserve it & others; they not only feed willows/wetlands but, they also replenish aquifers,…

Did a developer steal this woman’s camera?

What this contractor & his workers did was to significantly alter with Cut & Fill this well documented Ephemeral Stream thus, violating the LCP Policies shown below. They FILLED IN a large portion of the Stream with Eucaplyptus Chips which are toxic to wetland plants & animals. LCP Policy 8.1 Definition of Landforms states: Define landforms as natural topographic and landscape features which include, but are not restricted to, ridgelines, hillsides, canyons, coastal terraces, headlands, mountains,…
