Coastside fights global warming with a Montara beach party

I guess we won't be seeing you there Saturday Mr. Perkins, what a shame.

Coastside fights global warming with a Montara beach party

April 10, 2007
Mr Perkins, The author is clearly referring to global warming when he mentions "if current trends continue". If you are unsure what global warming is, then I suggest you take Mr Worens advice and do some research. Global Warming is very real and it's very much here with us, it's our duty as the only species on Earth capable of doing something about it to act to try to control the damage. It's the least we can do being as we are solely responsible for the damage to begin with, we owe that much to…

Brian, Do you live in Montara? If you do, I can't understand how you can be so flip about this issue. I fail to see the funny side of a community banding together to protect the environment that they live in from unscrupulous developers out to make a fast buck on a bad investment. And yes some of those people are bona fide experts (a Montara Water Board Official and a Traffic Engineer of 30 years standing to name two) both Montara residents. I'm sure you would get 'worked up' if someone was trying…

This was a very interesting meeting on many levels. It was clear that Ken Menasco (the developer) came to this gathering of the community to discuss his proposed project not only unprepared but uninformed. This did not go down well with the very well prepared and very well informed crowd of locals who had given up their evening to attend. He (Menasco) made very weak arguments in support of his plans, the main one seemed to be that he deserved a healthy return on his land investment. It became crystal…

Come help Coastsider clean Highway 1 in Montara Saturday

November 15, 2006
Thanks for organizing this Barry, if not checked the litter heartlessly thrown from cars and trucks on Highway One ultimately ends up in the ocean.I hopefully will have several 'Keep Montara Beach beautiful, PACK YOUR TRASH' t-shirts to give away on the day to the early birds. See you there! Kevin Montara Beach Coalition.

A note to the readers on objectivity and Coastsider

I have read Coastsider from it's very start, Barry's ethics follow that of the BBC, unbiased, transparant, intelligent and fair. People who post here know the rules, if you break them, you loose your right to post, simple. Keep up the great work Barry.

Devil’s Slide is open!

August 04, 2006
My commute to the City was a blissful 30 minutes instead of 90 minutes today! A few thoughts though. I do think that Caltrans should have had a public opening instead of a closed 'dignitaries' only ceremony, what's with that? After all the emotional, financial and physical stress endured over the last four months by coastsiders it's the least they could have done. Instead they throw a self back-slapping event at the taxpayers expense for themselves. Political issues aside, I personally think Caltrans…

County stops, and then allows, filling and grading at Big Wave

Let's all look at the land in one years time and see what is really going on here, building or farming.

I spoke with the owner of the Montara Army and Navy a couple of weeks ago, he said he was not able to survive much longer, and that was two weeks ago. I think he maybe completely closed down now. Poor guy. Kevin Montara

Letter: Please support Open Mic Night at Caffe Lucca

May 31, 2006
As Mike points out this is a really fun night out, we have been to two events and had a blast. There are many extremely talented musicians and artists living right here on the coast and this event is a showcase for some of that talent. We always see our friends and neighbours there and meet new people every time, the sense of community spirit shines brightly here, come down and join in, support your community. By the way, I've heard of Montara Mark but who is this Montara Mike character? Better get…

That sounds great! We could block off Highway 1 at the Outrigger and have the whole Montara bluff section of the Highway to ourselves, we could invite the whole coast!

Jackie Speier will “shop till she drops”  in HMB Tuesday

May 09, 2006
I hope it's not just Half Moon Bay shopping as we have many more businesses in Moss Beach, Montara, and El Granada that would love to have the exposure and dollars. Take a tour lady! Come down to Montara and buy something from Montara Army and Navy Store, the poor guy is dying on his feet from lack of business. Grab a coffee at Cafe Lucca, buy some wonderful organic veggies from SweetPea, then grab a pizza from Fog City to eat while you sit in the gridlock to get back over the hill. Enjoy your visit…

Caltrans will hold next public update in Pacifica on May 10

May 11, 2006
I also attended the meeting, Caltrans are still playing their cards very close to their chest. Kehan Moghbel had to be pressed hard before he gave away even the contractors name they are working with, a month since the Slide closed and still not even a hint of a timeline. But after his meeting today he promised to inform the Pacifica Council members (and everone else I hope) of the intended contractor timeline, he said it would be ready in 'a few days', we will see. Aparantly the slide is back to…

This is a joke right? Tell me Caltrans are joking.

Un Dia Sin Immigrantes (A Day Without Immigrants)

May 03, 2006
Kirsten, like you, I sympathize with these people. Also, like you, I am a 'legal' immigrant and will soon apply for my citizenship. America is a country founded on immigrants (mostly) and I'm very proud to be here living and working in this country and be part of it. But it's a fact that Immigration must be controlled properly. Without control it becomes a free for all and our social structure would inevitably collapse. There is no easy solution and it's a highly emotionally charged issue. I wish…

Caltrans puts Hwy 1 & 92 intersection camera online

May 01, 2006
Linda – Thanks for the suggestion, actually it was the Firewall at work preventing connection, I can connect fine from home. I have viewed the Caltrans Cam many times over many different time slots over the last few days. Living in Montara all this Cam tells me for my commute is that there is always a Southbound waiting line of traffic to turn right onto 92, usless information, as the line is always there. We need three more Cams, it's the least Caltrans could do. One at the lights at El Granada…
