POST is buying Wavecrest

August 27, 2007
Personally, I think Barry has been very fair with the discussions on this site, though the articles themselves seem to biased (which of course invites debate, which I think is good). However, I was taken aback when Barry asked me to not comment on Wavecrest's past. Barry, I think you are also correct on trying to stay on topic, and I honestly believe I have been on topic. As for POST.. I will believe what they are promising when I see it. Wasn't POST the ones that tried to prevent folks from walking…

POST is buying Wavecrest

I don't want to argue over whether this is a place for discussion on why we lack a boys and girls club or a middle school. I am trying to make a point that originally part of this area was to be made into a recreational area, and through this whole debacle us citizens are the ones that lost. Of course the main point here is that the owner of the property basically had no other choice but to sell it to POST (if the owner is looking to make some sort of profit). I don't think we need a multistory basketball…

somehow I don't think you meant this to be a festive piece of journalism.

Barry, Sorry but I don't know what you mean by trolling. And it is disheartening that you think not having a boys and girls club on the coast is ancient history. (or a new middle school for that matter). It must have been around 15 years ago that folks were all excited about the possibility of having a new boys and girls club, and the prospect of a new middle school. Are you now suggesting it won't happen until "20 years from now"? I would love to see POST turn this into a boys and girls club, even…

Oh, and wouldn't it be great if we had a brand new middle school instead of our current run-down, dilapidated, embarassing school that we currently have?

Why all of the background colors in the pictures? Is it made to look cartoonish, and is this real journalism?

Wouldn't it be great if we had a boys and girls club here on the coast? Will we ever get one, or is that considered "growth-inducing"?

Sierra Club director speaks out on LCP update

April 12, 2007
The reality is that it is very unlikely the population of this state, let alone our community will be reduced. We obviously need to think of where our current needs are lacking (and at dangerous levels at the moment) and be smart on how the upgrades are planned. And this has been done in many coastal areas (we are not unique).

Sierra Club director speaks out on LCP update

I think we can all agree that the current road system cannot accommodate the current population, let alone any new development. We need to stop thinking that wider roads means more development as there other checks in place to keep growth from escalating.

Wavecrest resumes farming on Thanksgiving

December 19, 2006
Dan, Thanks for your response. First off. I have no cohorts other than my wife and kids. I'm just looking at this logically, trying to understand why some people think they have a right to butt into someone elses business. Second, isn't this land designated as farmland at the moment? You've sort of made my point by saying it is "potential wetlands" when by law it is not? Let's put it another way.. Let's say you knew for sure a farmer truly owned this farmland and had been farming on it every year…

Wavecrest resumes farming on Thanksgiving

Wow I see this post is still active. If you go back to the original news item: If a land is considered farmland, and the owner of the land decides to prepare the land for farming, what right would the citizens have for saying the owner should not farm? What if the owner was truly a farmer that raised crops each year on this property. Would the owners actions be under a microscope like what we are seeing right now?

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

The reason for PI status is due to the english literacy problem on the coast, which has been a problem for a while now (for obvious reasons). That is a known problem, and I only see each school (and board) making changes to address this problem. It is interesting to piece to together that english literacy being poor in Cunha, and the fact that Cunha has now become a white minority school. On another story on this site Ken Johnson posted some numbers on decline of enrollment of caucasian children,…

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

Barry, Can you give some background to your original editorial comment around Yolanda: "created an atmosphere of hostility and negativity around the district and its board."? I am interested in understanding why you believe this, as I haven't seen this.

Kevin, I Just read the AYP report you provided above. So what? Can you explain the point you are trying to make? I see that our district met ALL API criteria in 06, ALL Math API for 06, and English has not been met everyone. This is a problem that has been with us for some time now, and you will see as a main reason for lower overall test scores. My bet is that next year you will see better results in this category because I've noticed a change in Hatch school around english proficiency for this…

You make a good point on the voting, being that it doesn't necessarily require a unanimous decision. My point is about the details of a decision and trying to add value (because it is in the public's best interest), even though you are opposing something. My guess is that Ken would oppose most things, but I would take that even further and state that he wouldn't want to try and add to the solution, even though he may be on the losing side. We do this every day in business life, I would expect that…

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

November 07, 2006
I like Brian G's original comment about having at least one independent member, which of course is NOT true (as Brian states) and should not be a reason for voting one way or another. What we need is a board that is inline with what the public wants to get done. The board should be a proxy for the public's voice. I'm not sure what we would get with Ms. Fischer, and I certainly believe we would get only bickering and non-results if Ken Johnson were added to the mix. I do respect his opinions on improving…

Ken Johnson, I'm sorry but I don't think you answered my questions.. you just replied with other questions. I think my concern is an important point for all persons thinking about voting for you. How would you work effectively with the rest of the team, in order to make strides in our school? You did mention something that would lead me to believe I shouldn't vote for you. You state "an incumbent free zone". This shows me you may have some personal attitudes towards other board members. Ray

Good information Jonathan on the dropping of enrollment, and it makes logical sense. As to the point about "Kicking and Screaming". I don't necessarily view it that way. How I would view it is this way: When voters approved the measure for a new middle, they expected to see a "NEW" middle school. The board was trying to accomplish what was promised to the voters, but had to fall short due to other obstructions. It was thus a decision that was not exactly what the voters had voted for. The point about…
