Half Moon Bay negotiating its surrender in Sacramento

June 26, 2008
The HMB folks who backed AB 1991 tried to stick it to the Coastal Commission. Their current comments all start off with the same mis-leading phrase. It is always something like "Won't it be a shame if we're stuck with an $18 million debt", or "the no-growthers will cost us $18 Million". They (and the City Council) hope you will forget that four people on the HMBCC intentionally, purposefully, and with malice aforethought, walked away from the appeal and swallowed an $18 Million poison pill. They…

Q: Why are Coastside school board elections so vicious?  A: Because the stakes are so small.

November 09, 2006
Posted this incorrectly earlier. Starting off on the new article... Nobody in the CQL etc group has ANY trouble with anything the school Board does or doesn't do. Way back to Ken and Ruth yelling at people who rose to speak at meetings. It's certainly OK to have little kids going around handing out literature against Measure D a couple years ago. "Oh isn't that sweet. Having kids involved in the political process." No problems with non-profits actively supporting candidates in your slate. No problem…

Coastsider endorses Pam Fisher for CUSD board

November 06, 2006
Pre- Election Summary A few final notes before the election... 1. Apparently at the Friday night HS football game the announcer told the crowd to go vote for the do-nothing slate. Wasn't THAT a special use of a school sponsored event. 2. The do-nothing slate claims in an ad that folks should vote for them since they're going to build the middle school at Cunha. Wow that took guts. After nine years of pushing Wavecrest, they were "forced" to build at Cunha, the only good site from the first. Please…

School Board candidates square off Monday, Oct 30

November 01, 2006
To Charlie Gardner: Thanks for joining the discussion. Let me be more specific about my "blame" comments. Maybe you can then explain your comments about painting me with "same tactic" brush. Please be speific. I am very specific about the "blaming tactics" of your extended group. I speak specifically when groups have absolute power over a decision. Two examples: 1. CUSD had absolute power over the choice of a Junior High site. Against the advice of everyone, including the Coastal Commission (the…

School Board candidates square off Monday, Oct 30

School Board Election – The Politics of Hate, Division, and Blame We see one major group at the national level with a history of Hate, Division, and Blame in its messages and programs. At the local level we have an identical group known as Coastside Community First (CCF). For over a decade this group and it’s name-switching predecessors have held a monopoly on membership on the School Board. Their well-financed campaigns have sought successfully to exclude all portions of our community they disagree…

Review incorrectly blames “environmental litigation” for Wavecrest delays

January 26, 2006
It's a shame that this point has to be restated continually. This is just one of a series of "obstuctions" blamed on environmentalists, when the problem is simply a group which refuses to admit the the Coastal Act counts as a law. It seems the approach is to blame the person pointing out that a law is about to be broken rather than the group or person about to break a law. Imagine if this policy were extended to other criminal acts. Ric Lohman

Lawsuits were a big theme at Tuesday’s debate

October 27, 2005
Another ironic thing about the "Too much being spent on lawyer fees" argument... It is interesting to note that the candidates who always bring this up are those backed by the "Big Development" coalitions. So, guess who is always suing the city... Right, the "Big Development" coalitions. Maybe these candidates should simply look in the mirror. Voters should pick Ferreira, Grady and Skinner because they solve problems, not create them.
