Road closed near Moss Beach Distillery because of “subsidence”

March 24, 2007
We are coming up on the one year anniversary of the San Mateo County Public Works Dept. doing NOTHING for the 100 or so resdidents of Seal Cove. There are at least 8 semi-permanent detour signs in the neighborhood. Plunked down and forgotten. The cracks on Ocean Blvd. have gotten worse too! -Cid Young

Dee Harley declared Farmer of the Year

March 24, 2007
It was such a pleasure to attend the Farm Day Luncheon and to see the award go this year to Dee Harley of Harley Farms. Dee had always been a generous supporter in the past when I was the HMB 4H goat leader allowing us to visit her farm when the baby goats had just been born. I would like to make a correction to the article by Barry Parr (No offense Barry....) But Dee was NOT the first woman to receive the farmer of the Year award....there just hasn't been a woman in a long time. Others to recieve…

Devil’s Slide is closed indefinitely

April 03, 2006
Yes, I thought about the heavy trucks. I also noticed that they had not been maintaining the holes in the pavement that had been caused by all those heavy trucks. I felt an earthquake recently at my home in Moss Beach, one that was centered in Moraga on the Hayward Fault last Monday, March 27th. And there was one near Hollister (4.3) on Saturday. A "minute" one (at 1.3) on Sunday in San Leandro... Another one much closer to us Coastsiders was centered 4 miles west of the SF Zoo...(1.8) on March 29th.…

Devil’s Slide is closed indefinitely

April 03, 2006
Barry, The photo you published seems to have been taken near the Pacifica "slump". That is NOT the spot I saw them looking at when I went through the Slide 2X's yesterday. They were on site at the previous BIG dip from 1995 when I went by northbound @ 3:30 p.m. When I came back through around 5:00 p.m., CalTrans workers were still there and I could see they were observing some visible cracks in the road......near the "real slide". This did not look good. -Cid Cid Young Moss Beach, CA

Opinion: Downtown in a downturn

March 21, 2006
I agree that all the extra lights have caused me to shop North of Half Moon Bay, just to avoid the traffic jams at Surfers Beach, (unless I duck into El Granada and around via the frontage road)thereby avoiding the problem of dodging jaywalking surfers and families that used to park on the west side of the road before Half Moon Bay had the beachside curb painted red several years ago... If you ask me, that action alone created a huge life-threatening nuisance to beach-going pedestrians and should…

Letter: Power out in Moss Beach yet again

March 21, 2006
I live in Seal Cove and sell Real Estate here on the Coast. I own several oil lamps and battery powered lights. I always advise my home buyers to have some of these on hand for the imfamous Coastside winter storms which are normally accompanied by balckouts or power failures. In spite of these warnings, people often don't have these items handy when the lights go out. It means pawing around in search of them in the dark. I think the real culprits are the tree branches that fall on wires when we get…

Wavecrest pulls out of wetlands delineation for third time

Well, it sort of makes sense because we've had lots of rain this season. That can't be too good for their side. Cid Young Moss Beach

Should we rename HMB Airport after Jessica Dubroff?

Should we rename HMB Airport after Jessica Dubroff?

February 28, 2006
Airports should be named according to the locality they serve? (...Like these?) JFk & La Guardia Airport (New York,NY) McCarran International (Las Vegas) John Wayne (Irvine-Newport Beach) Regan National & Dulles (Washington D.C) O'Hare & Midway (Chicago) George Bush Intercontinental (Houston) Heathrow & Gatwick (London) Charles de Gaulle, Orly, & Le Bourget (Paris) Schiphol (Amsterdam) Rickenbacker (Columbus, OH) Will Rogers World Airport (Oaklahoma City) I'm in favor of re-naming it after Jessica.…
