A busy Silly Season for Coastsider

August 01, 2006
Mr. Parr, The day the slide went out (April 6?)seems like a long time. I remember madly searching on the net to gather some news... There was Coastsider! The evolution of your news site has been great to watch. Your efforts are to commended and as all have seen copied. Thank you so much and may Coastsider remain an integral part of the Coast as a forum for discussion and a place to get the latest updates on local news. Linda A. Rocha Moss Beach

Devil’s Slide to reopen August 4

July 27, 2006
Thursday am, Re: Aug. 3 DS Block Party As few people have responded it appears that motivation to get together to toast the opening and say thank you to CalTrans workers is minimal. Unfortunate. Much easier to complain.... L

OK, if there is interest in a block party on Aug. 3 at 6 pm please e-mail me and I will "attempt" to organize. It would be great to invite Caltrans workers so their schedule has to be coordinated. Anyone want to help? [email protected] L

Letter: Sign and distribute a petition to Trader Joe’s

Wed. am, Response from Charise McHugh below - Note fellow readers: political support is very necessary, due to timing, requesting and obtaining support from the HMB Chamber looks difficult. Mid-Coast Council? Any other suggestions? Thank you. L "From: Charise McHugh To: Linda Rocha/Windsor Capital Sent: Wednesday, July 05, 2006 8:47 AM Subject: [SPAM] - Re: Trader Joe's Petition - Linda, We have a procedure for the Chamber to lend support to petitions. It needs to be approved by our Gov't Affairs…

Thank you so much John Lynch for your efforts with the petition. I understand we are close to 5000 signatures. Below is an e-mail I have sent Half Moon Bay Chamber of Commerce on behalf of everyone who has signed and voiced their support. Apparently there is some hestiation on the part of the Chamber to endorse this effort. Please, anyone who is a member or is an interested party - e-mail the Chamber ASAP. Point taken, The space is there - some business entity is going to eventually set up in the location. What would you folks that are throwing up objections choose to put there? Heard a tale of Gottchalks? Do we really need a clothing store? Give some positive suggestions! If they are reasonable I'm sure people will get behind it. L

Friday am, Re: Petition for TJ's We have to obtain 5000 signatures by early July. Anyone that is serious please help. Contact John Lynch, 650-726-9280. I happened to stop by a bookstore on Main St. yesterday and mentioned the petition and asked if they would be willing to post it. They weren't aware of the situation but were very enthusiastic. In fact the lady is going to print out the petition and bring it to Duarte's in Pescadero. The bottom line is the volume of signature response. L

Video: How is business?

June 08, 2006
Darin, Thanks for the response. Did you speak with the Indian Restaurant in Montara? Army Navy Store? Distillery? Seal Cove Inn? El Grand Amigo? If you live in Montara you may agree with me that the people south sometimes forget about our two little towns.... L

Perhpas Darin should take the time to go to Moss Beach & Montara and interview the roadside businesses there. A more complete picture of impact would appear than what is being presented in the video. Its a ghost town out here, little traffic except for locals. L. Rocha Moss Beach

Albertsons closing in HMB

A petition would be great but prior a coordinated effort by a group of people committed to represent the request needs to be formed. Volunteers? L

TJ's would be wonderful. But proof must be demonstrated to TJ Corporate that the Coastside would support the store. Barry would you consider setting up a peition for all to sign? Recall signing a petition to put a store in Pacifica and TJ Corp. vetoed it.... L

Yeah Ray & Gail, Perhaps Mr. Hoffman should attempt to qualify to purchase a home and maintain the monthly payments, taxes and insurance instead of depending on his wife. Enough is enough. L

Caltrans will hold next public update in Pacifica on May 10

May 09, 2006
Hmmmmm, Interesting, Caltans thinks enough of Coastal Realtors to attend a meeting today, present and answer questions. Makes a great deal of sense to me. The Realtors need to know if their income is going to be impacted thorugh sales and purchases. What about everyone else? All you non Realtors out there - Go to Pacifica tomorrow night! There is something wacked here.

OK, if the meeting is not going to be on the Coast as it should be I am going and I'm going to stand with whoever shows up to REPRESENT those who are impacted. I will have a sign on me that says MOSS BEACH. I personally do not have to deal with the commute as I work from home. My daughter on the other hand has to deal with 2 hours each way and in between teach a bunch of kindergartners in SF. She is beside herself being stressed. As a local notary I meet many people who are in the same situation.…

What a great location to choose! Why it only takes 1 hour (at least to get to Pacifica). So conventient for the Coastsiders to attend! And it will help with traffic on 92 for all those who want to attend. Pacifica is so heavily impacted by the the Slide being closed. Last time I was in Linda Mar the traffic was practically non existent! Great choice Caltrans!???? What else can I say?

Caltrans expects Devil’s Slide design and timeline in about two weeks

May 10, 2006
Wed. pm, Just got back from the meeting in Pacifica. The representation was mixed, Pacifica and Coastsiders. The gentleman from Caltrans was informative but elusive. A commitment was given by him to inform the public of a timeline in the very near future. When questioned about the design plans and the contractor he stated that a meeting was occurring tomorrow am in HMB. Whether this is open to the public was not clarified. The contractor was named but briefly, not enough to take note. There appears…
