Photo: HMB HS students ask CUSD board to keep counselors

March 22, 2010
This is my opinion based on personal experience with my involvement in youth sports in the HMB/Pescadero area. I cannot speak for the Hispanic community on the coast side but there will be some very sad and shocked parents once the school district eliminates both the counselors and school sports. The loss of school counselors takes away the best direct communication families have with their children's teachers without actually having to try and meet with them. Half Moon Bay High School has had tremendous…

Understanding Big Wave: Lots of parking

February 16, 2009
Since the early sixties the mobile home park formerly known as El Granada, now named Pillar Ridge, has been one of the few providers of low cost housing. We that reside here have been blessed with the peace and quiet, as well as the sun and open lands, our community enjoys. We know that there is a great need for Wellness Centers…

Letter: Thanks to the pilots who flew over today….......

Back in the day (1950's-60's) we would drive down to the HMB Airport for the NHRA drag races and two thirds of the local residents could be seen on their rooftops or on the coastal bluffs, binochulars in hand, enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of thes great events. Our tiny airport is one of the most vital…

June 25, 2006
From: Jose Tamez From 1997 untill last Summer, 2005, my kids and I used to take 'nature walks' in the Big Wave area. We would often see rabbits, all types of frogs, an occaisional fox, lots of different birds, including the majestic 'rodent killer', the Red Tailed Hawk and, The San Francisco Garter Snake. We would always see these harmless, beautiful snakes sunning themselves all in that area which WAS a perfect habitat. I had hoped to see them again this Summer but alas, guess no one gives a damn…

Coastside Film presents a heart-warming film about chasing miracles

April 27, 2006
Coastside Film Society: Just a quick word on a great movie (Saint Ralph) that my wife, 15-year old son and I saw last Friday evening at the Coastside Film Society event in HMB. What a terrific movie, especially to see it with a teenager the same age as the 'hero' in this fine story. We would recommend that all parents take their' teenage sons to see this dramatic, funny and well acted film. The direction was also superb, especially when you consider the delicate subject matter this story deals with. Our…
