Letter: Airliner over Montara?

November 19, 2007
Bruce, You are not alone. I too saw a small jumbo jet fly over Moss Beach this evening about 5 PM. As described it was moving from north to south toward HMB airport at about 2,500 to 3,000 feet. At the time it passed over our house it was making a slight left hand bank or adjustment and descending. The same north to south approach to HMB airport was used by several private planes today. I agree. The jet looked to be a commercial jet but I could not make out the markings on the tail. Michael

Editorial:  It’s time to solve the Coastside’s firefighting mess

I can't begin to understand what's going on with the two fire departments. Leonard says thare are 18 firefighters for 20,000 people in Half Moon Bay while Point Montara has 8 firefighters for 5,000 people in the Montara area. Is he saying they should have four times as many firefighters as Point Montara since they have four times the population to cover? Is he saying they need 72 fire fighters to man the HMB service area. In Montara we pay four times as much as do parcels in HMB. Maybe if they raised…

Several years ago one of those long term parcel taxes was passed in Montara and Moss Beach to fund the Montare Point fire department. Not long after that the Montara and Half Moon Bay departments merged and suposedly the parcel tax money was just for the Montara area. I would like to know if the charges for fire service are equitable for the whole district and what the discrepancy is ,if any, between fees for Half Moon Bay and Montara area houses for fire service since we should all be getting the…

Letter:  Why hasn’t anything been done about the evening commute?

Can we agree that Montara Mountain is an unstable, crumbling mountain and that tons of water leeches through it all year long.? What makes people think that the inside of the mountain is more stable than the outside? Just asking.

I have no grudge against anyone on the school board nor do I object to school taxes per se. I would have voted for the parcel tax, even if it were for a larger amount, if busing was included even though my children are older and out of school now. The whole 13 years they were at Cabrillo they had bus service. During the last road outage, the school buses were packed with children so many parents could leave for work earlier. I like looking at hawks and flower fields too, but this present commute…

We are the cause of our own traffic problems here on the coastside. When you voted for the tunnel, did you realize that it would take 16 years for completion? Sure the whole county voted for the tunnel, but the whole election idea came from right here on the coastside. Coastsiders were the biggest cheerleaders with our "sooner, safer, cheaper" bumper stickers and signs. If left alone, Caltrans would have preceded on their merry way without interference and we would be driving on our bypass right…

HMB Review waves its petard about, with predictable results

Sounds like Steve's breaking the law by voting on his wife's ballot. You're not alone Ken. Put me down for "No on S" too. Where can I get a yard sign? I wrote to the Review on May 12 and they said my letter was too long. I shortened my letter to 300 words and sent it back to them six hours later on the same day. Yesterday I asked the editor why he didn't print my "No on S" letter and he said at first it was too long and now it's too late to print! Linda Prieto P.S.(Would you print my 300 word letter…
