What is the Midcoast Community Council?

September 07, 2009
Hey now let us not forget that there are 3 NEW members joining the MCC VERY soon. Things may change for the better with new blood. All may not be lost. Question for Steve. Why didn't you make an attempt to correct the problems you seem to have by joining the MCC when you could have?

Escape reported from La Honda detention facility

April 12, 2009
Wow you sure seem to have more information about our county juvenile facilities than a normal concerned citizen. I am more concerned about your motivations now than a 135 pound 16 year old whos mother most likely brought him back to the facility the next day. What is your motivation? Have you ever been up to Glenwood? If so you must know that the whole point is that it is not a prison. You understand that anyone inmate could just walk away from that place but they don't due to the threat of being…

Rising sea levels threaten San Mateo County

Ok maybe I was jumping to conclusions. My bad.

Rising sea levels threaten San Mateo County

March 18, 2009
Huh ? "Say goodbye to our beautiful beaches. " Barry, Don't you think you are over reacting a bit ? Don't you think that you should get a little bit of evidence that the sea level change is changing more rapidly that normal before you go there ? I just read the other day that some polar ice cap scientists were saying that all the polar use would be melted next summer. They got called out on their data. Turns out that the instruments they were using to collect the data were broken and pointing in…

Coastside Family Medical Center closes

March 14, 2009
It's a sad day for our community and the people that were served by this clinic. I worked with Bob Harless for a short period of time and I know some of the huge mountains he had to overcome to make the clinic a permanent fixture. He is a great guy and was in my opinion the best chance that the clinic had to stay open. I guess that just wasn't enough. I wish Bob and his team and all of the medical staff there much luck in their future endeavors. How did it happen ? I am not entirely sure. I would…

Mac users can’t pay traffic tickets online in San Mateo County

March 13, 2009
Linda, That is a great way to make life easy using a Mac. The only problem with VMware is that a big portion of users aren't as comfortable as you doing things like that. I found that the Bootcamp stuff was a little easier for most people. Both are great solutions. Did you try that IE view hack ?

Mac users can’t pay traffic tickets online in San Mateo County

There is a plug in for Firefox called IEtab. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 This addon will allow u to render any web page with an IE engine inside of Firefox. This is for Windows. For macs there is IE view that needs to be tweaked a little to work for macs. http://ieview.mozdev.org/faq.html#macieview How can I use IE View in Mac OSX? Courtesy of user Tim Hammerquist: To open sites in (for example) Safari, in the IE View | Options window, enter: IE Location: /usr/bin/open Arguments:…

Letter: Fourth of July Spy

Perfect place for this public service message. July 8th is the day our law makers vote on the FISA Amendment. Make your voice heard. Please add to this post if you have more information or a differing view. Constitutional expert Jonathan Turley sees a “very frightening bill” in a proposed “compromise,” currently in the House, that would update the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to effectively grant immunity from civil lawsuits to telecommunications companies that…

Letter: Alternatives to July 4th fireworks?

June 30, 2008
No idea what that means. People in the "know" about what specifically? Co2 emissions ? Colic ? Elderly care ? Charity organizations ? Fireworks ? All of the above ? su·per·fi·cial 1. Of, affecting, or being on or near the surface: a superficial wound. 2. Concerned with or comprehending only what is apparent or obvious; shallow. 3. Apparent rather than actual or substantial: a superficial resemblance. 4. Trivial; insignificant: Which definition do you want to use ? I think that my comments…

Letter: Alternatives to July 4th fireworks?

June 30, 2008
So, it comes down to this. Susan you don't like fireworks. Your horse doesn't like fireworks. That's it. Let's tear apart each of your arguments one at a time. With an estimated 265,000 acres scorched already, these fires could have already sent up to 4.6 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. That's as much CO2 as a mere 9 days' worth of California traffic generates, according to my back-of-the-envelope estimate. Do you own a car? Ever wonder how much CO2 is involved in feeding and caring for…

Letter: Alternatives to July 4th fireworks?

June 28, 2008
Are you kidding me ? Seems as though you are saying that the way most of us celebrate Independence Day is really just an excuse to poison the community. Alternatives ? Like what? I don't see any ideas here. If you don't like the fireworks go up into the mountains and hide in a cave with Katharine and Wolfgang because the ENTIRE country will be watching and igniting the evil bags filled with boom boom powder. The very first celebration of Independence Day was in 1777, six years before Americans knew…
