CUSD superintendent Bayless is a finalist for a job in Massachusetts

February 03, 2005
No real surprise. In 2002, the press release went out that he had accepted a position with the county department of education. http://www.almanacnews.com/morgue/2002/2002_06_12.snote12.html What do you figure he was offered in exchange for staying with CUSD? The Review reported that he had changed his mind, but made no mention of compensation changes. http://hmbreview.com/articles/2002/06/12/export8796.txt And while we're on it, what was the real story with the $50,000 or so that he says he ponied…

Postal truck robbed at Montara post office

Postal truck robbed at Montara post office

February 02, 2005
According to an employee at the Montara post office, the only thing taken was a set of keys which would have provided access to facilities and collection boxes. Everything that could have been affected has already been rekeyed. No mail was taken. No money was taken. Why on earth would someone risk arrest for robbery, aggravated assault, and several federal felony charges for keys? How could they hope to profit? Since the truck drives up from the south, the best they could do is hit stops to the north.…

Cabrillo Unified gets mixed results in state school scores

January 26, 2005
I was confused by this: "In 2004, Half Moon Bay blew away its five percent target,..." until I realized it was supposed to be Half Moon Bay High. Every school is below the goal, which is a minimum-acceptable level, not some lofty goal.
