Letter: Attacks against HMB planning commissioners are unfounded

September 24, 2006
Mr. Lansing makes my point about not listening. I said the study was poorly done and it was. After reading it, it would not be hard to imagine that the author had never bothered to visit the pipe line ride of way or to correlate the boundaries of the project with locations along Hwy 1 where the construction will occur. To me the report was similar to paying an auto mechanic to fix and test drive your car only to find that your car's odometer has exactly the same reading it did when you brought it…

Letter: Attacks against HMB planning commissioners are unfounded

Mr. Lansing's interpretation of my motives with regard to whatever I say or do are just that his interpretation. That my motives are not what he thinks they are is hardly surprising, since he appears not to listen to what is being said most of the time. The additional biological study, which was very poorly done at best, was paid for by Water District customers at the request of the City. The water district did not object to this additional cost, although hundreds of thousands of dollars have already…

Letter: Attacks against HMB planning commissioners are unfounded

The Planning Commission spent three hours on the El Granada pipeline permit with Mr. Lansing dominating the discussion on this issue for most of those three hours. Lansing's objections were mostly based upon his personal version of the appropriate procedures. When the Planning Director, who is a professional hired because of his knowledge of appropriate process, suggested that the procedures being followed are the proper ones Mr. Lansing asserted that he knew better. This went on for most of those…

Letter: Attacks against HMB planning commissioners are unfounded

The request for a CDP was sent to the City just a few days short of a full year before the Planning Commission Meeting that finally approved it in a 5 to 2 vote. Lansing and McCarthy were the only members voting no. Lansing put this issue of vital importance to the community last on the agenda for that nights meeting. The vote came at 1:35 AM the next day. The meeting lasted over six hours and almost all of the talking was done by Mr. Lansing. The meeting was recorded at the request of the Water…

HMB Planning Director Liebster resigns

July 10, 2006
Barry Parr states no rationale that justifies the requirement to repeat already completed studies for the El Granada pipeline renewal. The issues of protecting the environment, endangered species, archeological relics, etc. have not changed since 1999 when the original studies were complete. No old findings were changed nor where any new or changed circumstances revealed in the recently completed additional biological study required by the past City Council majority’s retiring Planning Director,…

What is correct in Kevin Lansing's 6:47 PM July 9 statement is that the CDP's are yet to be issued. What is not correct is that the studies have not been done. No more studies are required to issue the permits. Jim Larimer

HMB Planning Director Liebster resigns

Kevin Lansing and Ken King ignore the simple fact that the El Granada pipeline project was fully vetted in Jan. 1999. Every environmental study, every waiting period, every procedure required by California and Federal law had been completed. Because they do not like the outcome, they want the process to be repeated. The City of Half Moon Bay has the right to require more studies and they did. That study confirmed the conclusions of the prior study completed more than six years ago. The issue has…

HMB Planning Director Liebster resigns

The "politically-connected people” Kevin Lansing refers to in his July 7 post must refer to me. Mr. Lansing's included a URL hyperlink to my letter in last week's Review. My complaint with the Planning Department under Mr. Liebster, and with the help planning Commissioners like Mr. Lansing, is that projects of all kinds within our community from home improvements to major infrastructure renewal projects have been held hostage by politically motivated actions. Mr. Lansing, for example, has taken…

Who should replace David Gorn?

July 09, 2006
If anyone questions actions or the policies of CCWD they should bring those concerns to the Water District. CCWD follows the letter of the law. CCWD conducts its business in the open according to California law. It tries to answer all questions and provide the rationale for the decisions it makes to anyone who requests it. The justification for the appeals of the El Granada pipeline project were based upon its presumed "growth inducing" size. The size in fact was selected by the district engineer…

CCF asks Coastal Commission 25 questions

In reply to Ken Johnson my comment should be taken at face value. The agreement made by the former City Council majority appears to be quite profitable for the Ailanto developer without much benefit to the community. This is the issue that motivated David Iverson many years ago to build a political collation to demand more community improvements from developers for the right to generate wealth here. It is common practice in most of America today for developers to make significant improvements for…

CCF asks Coastal Commission 25 questions

According to Hal Bogner we should accept the tentative settlement agreed to by the Ailanto property owners, the former City Council majority, and the Coastal Commission because the litigation has been ongoing for a long time. The Ailanto suit is not the only developer suit the city will have to litigate over properties near the High School. The owners of the Beechwood property are also suing. A good resolution of any suit happens when the major parties to the suit are able to each achieve some or…

CCF asks Coastal Commission 25 questions

I have more faith in accuracy of the US Census than Kevin Lansing, but if he were correct more commuters would use Foothill Blvd. Foothill will increase the route options available to commuters and people driving within our community; that will improve circulation and traffic flows. Increasing access to roadways improves traffic flows. Traffic engineers know how to design intersections with off and on lanes to improve fan out or fan onto major roadways. These are engineering issues that would be…

CCF asks Coastal Commission 25 questions

July 02, 2006
On June 17 Kevin Lansing posed the question would Foothill Blvd. connecting to HWY 1 north help traffic flows? He implied that future houses built along these new streets might negate any circulation improvement generated by Foothill Blvd. How credible is this fear? There are approximately 8000 households on the coast side today from the south end of Half Moon Bay to Montara on the north. The 2000 Census concluded that the average household contains 2.75 people or a total coast side population of…
