Brews & Views this Thursday: Clean-Energy Technology Innovation
“Clean-Energy Technology Innovation: Will the US build on its current market leadership or cede to the Chinese?”
Free public forum at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company welcomes Matt Rogers, Senior Advisor to the Secretary for the Recovery Act, with moderator Lenny Mendonca of McKinsey & Company
On Thursday, May 5, at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, the public is invited to participate in a discussion with special guest Matt Rogers, Senior Advisor to the Secretary for the Recovery Act, to discuss the future of energy technology innovation and what the U.S. will have to do to keep up with a very competitive world market. Lenny Mendonca, cofounder of the Brewing Company and director of McKinsey & Company, will moderate the discussion.
Gov. Jerry Brown signed California’s clean-energy bill on April 12, mandating that 33% of California’s electricity will have to be from renewable sources by the year 2020. Brown is predicting the change will help “jump-start” the state’s economy. During the signing Brown stated, “Its about California leading the country. It’s America potentially leading the world.” Can the clean-energy industry bring California, and perhaps the country, back into a global market? Or is it too little too late for the state to compete in an industry that has already excelled in bar-rising countries such as China?
Before holding the title of Senior Advisor to the Secretary for the Recovery Act, Rogers established San Francisco-based McKinsey & Company’s Clean Technology practice and led their American Petroleum Practice and North American Electric Power and Natural Gas practices. For over 20 years, Rogers consulted with leading oil companies and utilities globally. He served on the Obama Presidential Transition Team in a special effort to develop opportunities to reduce energy costs and increase renewable content in federal energy procurement.
Ten percent of the proceeds from all dinner sales at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company for this event will be donated to the Cabrillo Education Foundation.
