On Friday, June 3rd, Pacifica’s Environmental Family, a non-profit dedicated to promoting environmental issues, will be hosting a screening of ‘Bag It’, a movie that examines the ubiquitous single use plastic bag:

After the movie will be a live musical performance by The Humpbacks, a rock band that plays humorous songs with an environmental message.

The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company invites the public to participate in a lively discussion about what’s needed for business and policymakers to retool America’s economic engine to drive growth and job creation. Lenny Mendonca, director of McKinsey & Company and co-founder of the Brewing Company, will be the featured expert guest in a discussion moderated by Greg Galle, directory of strategy for Creative Capital. In his decades-spanning career with McKinsey & Company, Mendonca has written and spoken extensively on globalization, productivity, and economic development and competitiveness.

As the US economy emerges from the global economic crisis, several questions hang in the air: Can the US now pull off a more fundamental recovery? Can it restore its ability to innovate and compete globally? Can it create new jobs and re-ignite the productivity growth that drives GDP and living standards? 

Admission and snacks are complimentary. Beer, wine, and other beverages will be available for sale at the event. Ten percent of the proceeds from all dinner sales at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company for this event will be donated to the Cabrillo Education Foundation.

Korean born sisters, Angella (violin), Lucia (piano) and Maria (cello) have been redefining chamber music with a modernist, fusion sensibility that is perfect for our age. Trained at Juilliard, they achieved widespread recognition in 1987 when TIME Magazine featured them in a cover story about “Asian-American Whiz Kids”. They were selected by People Magazine as three of the “50 Most Beautiful People” in 2003, and have been featured in Vogue, GQ and in ads for GAP and Anne Klein.

On Wednesday, June 1, 2011,from 5:30 to 9pm,the Half Moon Bay Police Department along with Cameron’s Restaurant will again be hosting the annual Law Enforcement “Tip A Cop” night benefiting Special Olympics.  The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to enhance and expand the year round sports training and competition programs that Special Olympics offers to the developmentally disabled children and adults of the coast side community and San Mateo County.

Cameron’s Restaurant will once again be hosting this fun event, along with the Half Moon Bay Police Department.  At the event we will be conducting a silent auction.  But the success of the auction would not be possible without the support of people in our community. 

Last year the donations along with money raised from the auction, tips and T-shirt sales allowed us to raise over $12,000, again, the most ever raised in a single Tip-a-Cop event in the State of California. In the past ten years we have raised over $120, 000 for Special Olympics.

Please help us insure the continued success of Special Olympics, San Mateo County, by coming out and supporting our benefit.

Special Olympics athletes are never charged to participate in any sports training or competition programs.  Special Olympics receives no federal or government funding.  All the money needed to provide Special Olympics programs to our athletes, is generated by fundraisers, such as “Tip A Cop”, and the generosity of people and organizations in our community.

A drunken altercation in Princeton, an auto burglary and another smashed window at Pescadero Beach, two automobile vandalized near Moonridge, an auto burglary at Surfers Beach, disturbing the peace in Moss Beach, and bad neighbors in Moss Beach:

A resident of Culebra Street invited a neighbor and his female friend into his home to eat brownies and watch television. A few hours had passed and two male subjects came to pick up the female. The homeowner allowed them into his house as well. When the three subjects left the residence the homeowner noticed that his car keys, cell phone and money were missing. The neighbor did not know the females last name or where to find her. They did have a cell phone number. The incident will be sent to the detective bureau for review.

The Coastside Chorale will let its hair down Saturday,  offering a light-hearted program at the Ted Adcock Community Center, 535 Kelly Avenue, Half Moon Bay. The program will range from 18th century music to rock-n-roll favorites of the 1960s.

The Chorale is directed by Joan McBride and accompanied by Michaele Benedict.

Joining the singers will be Charles Calvert on cello, James Moran on guitar, and Valerie Kruger on percussion.“Every Second Counts”, a quintet of the Chorale’s second sopranos which frequently performs on its own, will sing pieces from the Big Band era.

“Piè Jesu” from the Fauré Requiem and Mozart’s “Ave Verum”, two favorites from the choral repertoire, show off what some audiences have called the Chorale’s “angel voices”. By contrast, a hard-driving “Tuimbe” (“Let There Be Music”) in Swahili, and Dan Davison’s “Ritmo” with a piano four-hands accompaniment should stir things up. A gospel arrangement of Paul Simon’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” will feature several of the Chorale’s soloists.

The concert concludes with pieces from the 1960s rock musical “Hair”, and the audience will be invited to join in on “Let the Sunshine In”.
