TOPIC: OCEAN BOULEVARD ROAD CLOSURE IN SEAL COVE, MOSS BEACH

Many of us in our neighborhood, Seal Cove, asked the REVIEW to cover the road situation out by the Distillery. Maybe we can get a bit more public support (via Coastsider.com) to get the Public Works Department of San Mateo County to maintain the so-called COUNTY MAINTAINED roads. As some locals already may know, Ocean Blvd. has been ruptured and closed to traffic since April (as long as Devil’s Slide had its slippage problems during the incredibly rainy winter and spring we had this year).
While the big news was the Closure of the Slide, it’s already fixed and re-opened. Meanwhile, San Mateo County’s answer to the local problem was to put up some ugly detour signs and then go back to Redwood City and sit back and basically do the minimum that they can get away with. (ALMOST NOTHING! And slowly at that!)
They have done a traffic count survey, and then some yellow dots appeared at some curves and intersections. OK.
It’s not just the 100 or so homes out here that are affected….many Coastsiders come here to walk, jog or stroll the bluff top trails away from heavy traffic and to enjoy the peaceful views and walk their pets in our neighborhood.
I know we would get more local support if there was a broad based outcry. Please call Director of Public Works,
Neil Cullen OR Supervisor Rich Gordon’s office to voice your concerns.

Hi Cid -

I know that this area is a fragile bluff and wonder if you are aware of or, have information on a notice in 9/13 HMB Review regarding Lots 1 & 2 in Block 3 - Book 6 of Maps pg. 20 SM County Records known as 686 Ocean Ave. where Ex-County Attorney, Dave Byers, is suing property owner, Melba Sue Pack. I don’t know if there is an application at the County for someone to build at this site or what this case is pointing towards but, one thing for sure is that this area should not be considered as a building site! /Barb Mauz

I was not aware of that. It is unfortunate too, because her daughter is in the hospital and it is very serious. Melba has lived there a long time and after her husband died the owner of the Moss Beach Distillery encroached on her land with his parking lot. I will go back and read my legal notices in past Reviews.
