View Coastsider Insider
Welcome
Coastsider Insider is a place where Coastsiders can create and edit web pages about anything. Insider is a wiki—a Web page that anyone with access can edit. Coastsider’s trusted members (anyone with Town Hall posting access) can create and edit pages in Insider.
For more information about our wiki software, click on “Wiki Help” in the right hand column for some directions. Insider’s wiki uses a popular text formatting system called Markdown. You can also use simple html in the text.
FAQ
How do I create a page? You can type the name of the page you want to create into the “Create or Find Page” box in the right-hand column. Or, you can create a page by creating a link on a existing page by enclosing the name of the page in double square brackets.
Who can change a page? If you can post in Town Hall or in Coastsider comments without moderation, you can create and edit pages in Insider.
How do I get posting access? (1) Register as a member on Coastsider, using your real name as your Screen Name. (2) Request posting access to [email protected].
Is Insider moderated? Changes can be reversed if there is a problem. The best rule to remember is to be civil and accurate. Also, respect what others have written when you edit it. We’d prefer to keep Insider unmoderated, so that changes don’t need to be pre-approved, and we’ll do that as long as it makes sense.
How can I tell who changed what on a page? Check the History link at the bottom of any page. The Recent Change link in the right column will show you the most recent changes to any page on the site.
Can I post commercial messages? You can, but keep in mind that others can edit them, as long as they observe our Terms of Use.
What can I create pages about? Whatever you’re interested in, but you should check to see if an appropriate page already exists. Good subjects for pages are government agencies, laws and ballot measures, Coastside locations, parks and beaches, schools, neighborhoods, events, historical topics, nonprofits, or other organizations.
Rules
Coastsider’s terms of use are the final rules in Insider, but here are a few things to keep in mind.
- Be civil.
- Be respectful.
- Insider is designed to be a repository for information. Opinion should be labeled as such and include the name of the poster.
