I’ve added a new feature to the site: Coastsider Calendar.
Coastsider Calendar contains information about upcoming government meetings, school schedules, and entertainment on the coastside. You can view all the listings together or break it out by type, view them by day, week or month, and listings are linked to relevant websites. You can also subscribe to our calendar by RSS or with Apple’s iCal software.
Please check it out and tell me what you think. Is it useful? Do have any suggestions to make it better? Does it work correctly on your computer? Let me know.
Your story will be reviewed by a moderator before it is released.

Coastsider now lists community events in the right-hand column of every page, just below the ads. My goal was to make the information prominent on the site and make better use of the right column. Coastsider should have enough space to feature one week’s worth of general community events. This is an experiment, both in form and content, and your feedback is welcome.
Here’s a question for beta testers and early adopters.
I’m trying to decide how to deal with opinion pieces (versus purely factual items) on Coastsider. I’m considering two alternatives, but there may be more. The first is to create a separate section called Opinions, where all opinion pieces would reside. The second is to put them in the most appropriate section (Business, Community, Fun, Government).
In either case, opinion pieces should have an Opinion tag in the title (e.g. "Opinion: Secret meetings are good for the community"). I can see several types of opinion tags: Opinion, Coastsider Editorial, Column. Can anybody think of others?
