Dennis Coleman, who was on the council during some of the Old Guard's reigh, sums it up well in a Voice of the Coast piece. To your specific points: Roads paved. That's notable for the long period of little or no road paving under prior councils. Sewer plant road was never a good place for a recreational park, and had the prior council looked harder, they would have found the environmental concerns that were fairly obvious. Had the park plan been better thought through, they would have seen the exorbitant…

Status quo? Roads paved. Substandard lot changes submitted to the CCC. LCP update well underway. Sewers improved. Recycled water underway. Parks purchased. 92 funded. Lawsuits settled and/or won outright, number of outstanding PUD homes sharply reduced, and many large developers now working with the city instead of seeing what they can get away with. That's progress! That's where vested interests can really get in the way. If those things mean nothing to an individual because of care about their…

strange money, strange flow, indeed. Muteff's money comes from: contractor realtor realtor realtor real estate PAC construction 6 different ways from "Chop" Keenan, et al, developer developer realtor major land owner developer contractor realtor developer/major land owner/big money behind many campaigns and a handful of others Is that how George defines grass roots? For all his venting about the city and lawsuits (which, by the way, the city has been winning), George has taken money from the Beachwood…

Don't forget to read the Local Coastal Program for your area (city or county). It's part of the Coastal Act, too.

Why the use of "anti-build anything crowd" in the discussion of the city council election? It seems to me that it's being used to tar candidates Mike, Jim, and Steve. But it just doesn't hold up. The current council has been getting a lot done. This is all the more notable because Naomi had 16 years on the council to accomplish things like building parks and fixing roads. The current council's track record is not "anti-build anything", and they have a lot of support from developers and coastside…

"We all know that the very small, very vocal minority that makes up the anti-build anything crowd are vastly outnumbered by the people that you speak of."
Who is this "anti-build anything crowd" you speak of?
Do us a favor, please, and name a name or two.

Looking at that web site, would that be the composition category error? Composition: because the attributes of the parts of a whole have a certain property, it is argued that the whole has that property Or maybe it's "hasty generalization"? The size of the sample is too small to support the conclusion. The real world is full of logical fallacies because of the people who use them. Does using a logical fallacy to try to win an argument (or election) make things right? Speaking of the far-right, how…

"It's not even wrong."
Absolutely wonderful! And the Goldfinger quote is priceless.

As we've seen just this past week, county superior courts do not always apply the law as it's written, and it's been up to the appeals courts to correct the lower courts.
Antiquated subdivision maps are exactly that, antiquated. It would be interesting to see how the appeals court that took on Beachwood would dissect and rule on Spreckels.

"in every page"?
As in, "in every bite"?

I mentioned the article to a couple of people today. "You know, that house up on the ridge. It's the Examiner's House of the Week."
I wouldn't describe either as "ardent opponents", but their opinions, offered freely and without prompting, were clear and could not be described as "compliments".

Does the Review send reporters to public meetings?
If they did, you'd think they'd realize that their comments are out of touch with reality.

For the state to call it a "beach" is overly generous and unintentionally misleading. Until the sand coming down the stream is allowed, through actual tidal action, to nourish Miramar Beach, it's just a sandy part of a working harbor. It's important that it be cleaned up, and until it's cleaned up, that it be posted. But it's no ocean beach and probably deserves to be on a separate list. As for getting it cleaned up, did the county ever install the backwash prevention device to keep harbor water…

Thanks for catching that. No wonder I couldn't find the original story!

Marina voted against Gorn (given the nature of the motion).
Marina and Naomi were portrayed some time back in the Review as best of friends who enjoy baseball so much they took a road trip together to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
