Play Montara’s “Guess the number of Power Outages” this week.

January 18, 2010
My power went out at 10am, came back on at 8pm caused by a down power line at Acacia & Edison in Montara. PG&E very busy sometimes know as "Pacific Graft & Extorsion". Need more tree trimming.

HMB City Council will interview and appoint Gorn’s replacement Tuesday

July 08, 2006
I assume the council makes the decision without any input from the public. I live in Montara so am not in the HMB jurisdiction. So I guess I don't count. I don't no any of these candidates, any suggestions? Steve Habelow [email protected]

Who should replace David Gorn?

July 07, 2006
Will the public be able to ask the candidates questions at the meeting on 7/11? Or is it just the council doing the interview? Steve Habelow [email protected]

SamTrans adding buses from Coastside to BART

June 19, 2006
I took the sam trans bus at 1:45p today from 7th/main in montara. Asked the bus driver how many people were riding the express bus, about 15-20. I don't know how many riders it would take to keep it going all year round even after devils slide is open. steve Habelow [email protected]

Are these buses getting enough riders? Haven't heard much about this bus service lately. Steve Habelow [email protected]

SamTrans adding buses from Coastside to BART

June 02, 2006
Going over 92 at 9:40am traffic was light as usual a few trucks & one going slowly as we approached 35 but still traffic moved along estimate it took 20mins to get from 1/92 to 280. Coming back at 2:20pm at 280/92 it took 23mins to get to main st. I was surprised at the amount of traffic at this time of day, plus a fair amount of traffic going east on 92. Steve Habelow

Let samtrans drive this for 1-2 weeks & then see what the schedule will be. In the am it maybe okay but the pm maybe slower then they have in the schdule now. It does not save us any time as we still have to get up at 4:30am, leave acacia & franklin at 5:05am for my wife to fishermans wharf which takes 60mins (40mins when prior to devil's slide). If she leaves at 3:30pm it takes about 90mins to get home. I leave later but even at 5:45 am I can get to santa clara by 6:15-6:30am. Of course coming back…

HMB Review waves its petard about, with predictable results

May 18, 2006
Mr. Parr- The Coastsider gets 11 out 10 in my book. This is my first time using a blog the past few weeks & find it very educational, fun, informative & hope to meet you tommorrow night. The three piece article by Eric Rice on devils slide was great. Now I know why it took nine years to get we are today. Thanks for all your hard work. Steve Habelow [email protected]

Come meet Coastsider at Rock the Block Friday

May 18, 2006
Barry- Where on main street, the street maybe jamed with hordes of people. I did not see anything in the review but.........maybe I was asleep again. Steve Habelow [email protected]

Caltrans may end “free” right turns onto Hwy 92 for HMB commuters

May 17, 2006
Barry- I know why your up at 3am, you can't sleep like the rest of us. This situation gets tiresome with caltrans playing with the lights etc. #92 is maxed out with traffic. If you look at the road, scenery etc. The curvey part of 92 going north out of hmb is strecthed out so the curves are not that tight, only a couple are & as you get close to the steep part of 92 it is straight. Now for the fun the curves between #35 & # 280 are tight some are almost harpin curves & traffic slows down at this…

Caltrans plans to announce schedule Tuesday

May 11, 2006
Barry- Mr. Moghbel can not give a realistic schedule until the contractor starts work, drilling, & even then it may change +/- as work progresses. I know it is frustrating for everybody plus caltrans is still getting sued to stop the tunnel. I spoke to Keyhan before the meeting & asked him if caltrans had told the coastside/hmb after the '95 fix of the road to start looking for an alternative route. He said yes. My question: Why has it taken nine years to start the tunnel? We have only lived on the…

Caltrans will hold next public update in Pacifica on May 10

May 11, 2006
I Attended the mtg in Pacifica last night. It was the best mtg so far, Caltrans is making progress & should have schedule out next week as to how long it will take to fix the road. They are meeting with the contractor today. It appears to be more promising but. Kehan Moghbel gave the same slide presentation that he did on 4/16 to the hmbcc. I spoke to him before the mtg, he is okay has a tough job & lives in Novato. About 10-12 people from montara, moss beach, el granda; some spoke trying to get…

Caltrans will hold next public update in Pacifica on May 10

May 09, 2006
I will be at the mtg in Pacifica also Linda see you there. Hope Caltrans will be more forth coming with the problems at DSE. Another rumor yesterday that the mountain is still sliding. About traffic tickets just be nice to the officer who pulls you over, I have talked my way out of two tickets the past two months, but they were over the hill. Is anbody interested in a ferry service from pilar point to fishermans wharf, SF? At least for the DSE. Still trying but I think about 30-50% of the coastsiders…

Caltrans will hold next public update in Pacifica on May 10

May 07, 2006
A suggestion that was stated to me on the dog walk this am: Is to have 92 one way both lanes from 6am to 8am & 3:30pm to 7:30 pm. The CHP could lead the lane that is going the wrong way in the am & pm, also have it well posted that traffic will be going east in both lanes in the am & in both lanes going west in the pm. Sounds simple but........it would certainly move the traffic, at least worth a try. Tired all the time getting up at 4:30am 5 days/wk & even on the wknds as I can't sleep late. Traffic…

Coastside Community First revives Foothill Blvd project

May 07, 2006
Mary I did post about two weeks ago suggesting a ferry service from pillar point to fishermans wharf. Have spoken to others on dog walks whatever, there is an interest in a ferry service at least while devil slide is under repair. Have been talking to the Water Transit Authority with some success. They have $1.6 billion for emergency ferrys when we have the big quake. One problem is the ferry has to be certified to go out in the ocean, all ferrys we have now are just certified for the bay. Second…

Media examine Coastside life without Devil’s Slide

April 26, 2006
Barry- Another resident in Montara has emailed caltrans for their maintenance records for the past five years for devils slide. I want to get her permission before I forward it to you. She commutes to hercules in the north bay. I lost the email it was a comment on a sunny day video on the 13th in which the email stated having main st at the olympic gas station become one-way from 4-7pm with both lanes going one-way past ocean shore to 92. The bottleneck at bunker hill & 280 starting about 3:30pm…
