Cunha returns to old schedule, cancels buses

September 15, 2006
Amie-- You are missing the point. My point is if there already are busses running up AND down the coast everyday, transporting this evidently "privilaged" group you speak of, why can't the disrtict 1) use larger busses and take more kids(it would seem ONLY allowing access to transportation to a certain group IS discriminatory in and of itself, doesn't it??) and 2) take people both ways, up and down the coast. My comment has nothing to do w/prejudce. It is just another example of a poorly run government…

Cunha returns to old schedule, cancels buses

I love all of this back and forth on whether there should be busses. I just want to point out that for some residents on the coast there is busing, we seem to have enough dollars to bus kids from Moonridge to what WAS the best school on the coast, Farralone View, now the school is unfortunatly, as mediocre as the rest of the coast. Why can the disrtict afford to bus kids who have payed little or nothing into the school district yet can't supply transportation to the taxpaying parents and students…

Devil’s Slide to reopen August 4

August 02, 2006
Newt-- If you look at the history of the slide and how often the road gives out etc. You will come to realize we have been duped as Carl suggests. The worst of the slides to occur happen in 1983 when the road fell about 5 feet and hwy 1 south of the slide washed out in 2 sections of about 50 yards each. What was most remarkable was that the repairs done then were complete in about 80 days, or less than half the time it took Caltrans to fix the road this time. To put in into perspective the roadbed…

last comment-- I see all of the "SHEEPLE" on the coast are swallowing the CALTRANS propaganda hook line and sinker, what else could be expected, where is Carl May when i need him?? Just think if they had not done so much politicing in the first month after the slide went out, the road would have been open JULY 4th and our kids could have seen a fireworks show!!! Remember it took these beaurcrats over a month before they even came up with a plan--from April 3 until well into May!!!! What I find interesting…

Devil’s Slide to reopen August 4

Looks like the repair fund ran out early, thank god for that. The contractors (and Caltrans) can no longer keep all of that equipment and manpower up on the road 24/7 and still make a profit. If there was a way to get more money, there is no doubt in my mind they would continue to drill holes into the mountain and stick more rebar into the holes. Fortunatly for all of us coastsiders the state has no money and the feds have already giving us enough to not only fix the road but build a tunnel bypass,…

Letter:  Why hasn’t anything been done about the evening commute?

July 17, 2006
Leonard-- You want a permenant fix for SR 1 well that's what we are getting. Like I have said before once the tunnel are built the local communities should take over the "old" road and charge a fee to use it. The proceeds fromthe fee could go to help fund our schools so the tax and spend liberals will have more money to spend on the "children" without raising my taxes. The work those "beauracrats" have approved is a Permenant fix. I would be very surprised if that road failed anytime in the next…

This free right turn light issue can be solved if MOST ALL of us living in the north coast bypass the left on 92 and instaead drive one extra block south and make the u turn back onto north 1, then make the 'free right turn" onto 92. That way the people coming up from Ocean Colony and other points south will have more traffic to contend with. If you go straight to Kelly and then u turn you will save 5 mins or more.

Pulling together???? How about spending an hour to drive from el grananda to HMB some morning. And god forbid the southbound traffic gets backed up ONE BLOCK!!! That's pulling together. We are all helpless in this whole matter. We are stuck with this commute and traffic until our friend Mr. Sartipi and Caltrans exhaust the 7.5 million they have to spend. We had the chance to try to stop this but there is so much apathy out here, everyone just assumes Caltrans knows what they are doing. The one question…

I agree with Linda. This is a disaster for the businesses in Montara and Moss Beach, but thank god Caltrans has let everyone know the businesses are still open(without those signs they would really be in trouble). It would be nice if those contractors caltrans is paying 7.5 million dollars to would spend SOME of their enormous profits in the businesses here. BTW, I will not shop or eat in HMB(main street,we can't avoid going to safeway) until the right turn metering light is turned on and they start…

Measure S loses with 61% of the vote

June 09, 2006
My comments may sound grumpy to some but until CSUD can demonstarte that the money they have they are using for best result i will vote against any and all tax increases. Make the tourists, that the fine mayor of HMB is forever grovelling for, pay for the schools. So far no one has come up with why it would take more than 7g's a yr to educate a child???

Measure S loses with 61% of the vote

Wow what a volitle issue. I guess I am on the side of the child abusers in this. My abused kids go to a private school where the tution per child is LESS than the amount the state alots per child in this school disrict. My question is if they can provide a quality education why can't that CSUD????? If you really want to try to get some funds for the school may i suggest something. Once Caltrans is done spending their bounty of money on the overdone repairs for HWY 1. The communities of the san mateo…

Devil’s Slide will be open in late September, says Caltrans

May 16, 2006
Kevin-- The 83 'temp' fix was the best they have ever done, it lasted over 12 yrs longer than the 95 fix and we only need 4 yrs. why are they attempting to do a permenant fix now????Let buklldoze it like it has been done for the last 70 yrs. everytime t went out and open in a couple of weeks.

Devil’s Slide will be open in late September, says Caltrans

May 15, 2006
I just spoke to the consumer affairs person for the devil's slide project, John Cunliffe. He said there is a window to try undo what has been done and seek a more temporary solution in a faster time. He proudly stated to me that the repairs they are undertaking will shore this up for 15 yrs to come!!! That's the problem we only need 4 yrs. None I repeat NONE of the old repairs have been looked at as options, according to John. CALTRANS is insisting on a bigger fix than they undertook in 1995. WE…

Devil’s Slide will be open in late September, says Caltrans

This seems like much more work and a much more permanent fix than the last time the road went out. I guess we should all look at the bright side and thank Mr. Sartipi for all of the dillengent work he has done. The pictures this site has of the 1983 slide show how bad it could have been. HMMMMM. How long WAS the road close in '83,.... 85 days!!!!!! I remember the Chronicle ran several stories on the slide then. I guess we are lucky we have Mr. Sartipi running things now instead of 1983 otherwise…

Caltrans plans to announce schedule Tuesday

Hey Jeff-- You are exactly why i left the communist republic of San Francisco. You can afford to live there because you live a rent controled apt. You are a landlords worst nightmare, and having been a landlord in SF i knbow all about that boondogle. Let's make the property owners maintain their property for your enjoyment. Talk about selfish you are it!!!

Caltrans plans to announce schedule Tuesday

I have abosolutly had it with this boondoggle Caltrans has going on, it took about 1.5 hrs from 92/280 to ELG on mothers day evening, who was working on fixing the slide during those hours???? To fix the road and make it passable for the next 4 yrs. shouldn't take more than a 2-3 weeks tops with a bulldozer and blacktop. This is how the slide has been repaired in the past and it is how it should be do now. If they could fix the back in the 30's and 40's in a few weeks why can't it be done now???CALTRANS.…

I have lived on the coast since 1998 when we moved here from SF. I am a forth generation San Franciscan, my daughter fifth. The slide has caused HWy 1 to close no less than 5 times in the past 35 yrs. Each closesure has been met with an even longer closure. The issue, frankly, the basic and fundimental ineffectiveness of beauracracy today. When we moved here in 1998 real estate was 50% cheaper then anywhere else in San Mateo, because the 1995 closure was still painfully in everyone's mind. The tunnels,…
