HMB –– 6/16/11 –– There will, after all, be an Old-Fashioned 4th of July Parade in Half Moon Bay.

After months of scrambling to obtain sponsorship support, parade organizers today announced that the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee has agreed to underwrite the cost of holding the popular, home-spun parade down historic Main Street.

Faced for the first time this year with the unexpected added expense of having to pay for permit fees and city staff time previously absorbed by the City of Half Moon Bay, organizers spent months trying to secure funding, putting the parade in jeopardy.

“We’re delighted and honored to announce this partnership with the Beautification Committee. We were in a tough spot and they stepped up to the plate in a time of need,” said Roxy Stone, Co-Chairman of the Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade Committee. “Their generous support will enable us to move forward and help us keep the parade alive.”

For the Beautification Committee, it was an easy decision, said Treasurer Mel Mello Jr.

“The Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade is a community treasure and we’re happy to help support it,” said Mello. “It’s a time-honored institution and represents everything we all appreciate about living here.”
